I do admit I love the look of the ceramic coated woofers in the reference line. They're impressive and flashy looking.
Ideally, it should be from the same line to get the same drivers and crossover. That will match phase and timbre. Getting this right is well worth the extra money, if possible, IMO. 80% of HT is from the center speaker, and you get much better imaging.

By that, I mean 3 of the exact same speaker or 3 that are designed to be used together, such as 215RT/RM or 210RT/RM.

It's also ideal to have the center speaker vertical behind an AT screen, but having a speaker from the same line still helps a lot even if vertical isn't possible.

Jeff, just delivered my neighbor his new L&R 215RT's. He just replaced some Klipsch RF30's (not 100% sure about the model number) with these monsters. He also has XMC-1 and Crest IPR7500 (2000watts/ch) driving the 215's. The sound is really great right out of the box and with just a bit of bass boost for the low end we started getting really good tactile experience even towards the back of the room. Once he gets his laptop going he will have full Dirac Live room correction with his XMC-1. As good as they sound now, I cannot wait to hear Dirac correction of the 215RT running full range. Couple pics including new 92" projection screen.

What are they doing for a center speaker?

That just begs for an AT screen and a 3rd 215!

Hey fellas, quick question on the surround placement. Should the side surrounds be about a foot above ear height or more like 5' above ear height? This is for one row of seating and I would probably use single/slanted 8s.

Most recommend at or slightly above seated ear height and in that scenario S8LP's would be best. I have Triple 8LP's as my side surrounds and the CD is about 1' above front row and right at back row seated ear height (12" riser).

We watched Michael Jackson "This is It" for probably the 20th time last night. Never ceases to amaze the guests re the sound quality. Mission Impossible Rouge Nation was Sat night and that is a great one for you JTR'ers. Turn it up and let fly!

Anxiety is contagious, please keep yours to yourself.

At this point I think he is still weighing options while he enjoys the new L&R for a while. That said, things do seem to happen very quickly over there. He practically re-did the whole basement part drywall and part drop ceiling and installed in wall rack and re-routed wiring all in about a week, and he has a full time job! That would have taken me 2 months

Definitely needs acoustical treatments and a professional calibration. Right now after running Audyssey it has the LCR at -8.5 and all the other speakers are set to -12. Not quite as loud as I would have expected and lacking ever so slightly in the mids and lows. So far, best sounding setup I've ever had.

Room is far from done, still need seating and I have the Marantz and Oppo sitting on a box. It's not pretty but at least I can make sure everything is wired correctly. Speaking of wiring, I have a lot of cleaning up to do. Looks like a birds nest behind the wall.

Pics or it didn't happen

seriously though, sick setup. I'm sure some concert blu's will sound insane!

that does tend to happen from time to time Either the neighbors can't stand you because of the sound, or they like it and want to do the same! I am lucky, no haters so far. Fingers crossed.

I was just reminded these Klipsch are the KLF 30, not RF.

Brilliant stuff. I didn't know the slanted 8ht-lp were ready to ship.

I am hoping to get the Atmos duty slanted 8ht-lp in March.

@Nabs17

If it's not too much trouble, could you take a few pics of one? I'd specifically like to see side profiles and back, if you are taking requests

I need six of them for Atmos duty myself. Debating buying one pair after the new year to give them a trial.

Nope, I decided to let you be trail blazer on this model.

Seriously, maybe it's old age but I'm getting less inclined to take my usual ready, fire, aim approach. I want to see how all of these immersive audio format issues shake out when DTS-X arrives on scene. The goal is my next speaker deployment in this house will be my last.

I thought you ordered these as well. You didn't?

These will be my last speakers...at least for a very long time. The McIntosh I had before this lasted 15 years...so these JTR's are probably it.

I read (here) that Denon will be installing the DTS-X upgrade in January...so hopefully other manufacturers aren't too far behind.....like Yamaha.

Hey Sean,

I'm not 100% sure yet but I think TR pair will be mounted directly to the ceiling. Now (exactly) how I do that, I'm still debating....maybe a backplate not sure. At one time I thought about recessing them in the ceiling a bit but not sure if I want to do all that. TF...I'm debating between ceiling mounting or using a bracket (attached to the ceiling) to angle them more than I need the TR pair angled. They will be mounted within Dolby's spec just working on the details...my ceilings are 10' so I'm good there. I'm on vacation next week and my plan is to have it done during that time. I'm really dreading getting into the attic to re-route the speaker wires

Yeah well the JBL's didn't sell (couldn't give them away) and there's no room left in the audio spare parts closet. I will end up with 4 or 6 ceiling/height speakers eventually but for now, I'm in a holding pattern.

Yeah, there's getting the format out there and then getting some content. I'm sold on immersive audio but the format wars are making me cautious about height/ceiling specific deployment and placement.

Anxiety is contagious, please keep yours to yourself.

How long is the flat part of top? from the slot to before the baffle slants? If I have them up against a ceiling/wall corner, I'd like to know how far away the driver is going to be from the wall.

Thanks!

From what I read, my unit (Denon X7200WA) will be the first to get it on the 28th of January and the rest on Feb 18th. Looking forward to it. I am taking 2 weeks off right around there and working on my theater. Looking forward to some RR and getting some stuff done I have been sitting on. The update is coming in at the right time. Hopefully there are no delays or bugs!

Yeah, there's getting the format out there and then getting some content. I'm sold on immersive audio but the format wars are making me cautious about height/ceiling specific deployment and placement.
Yea, seriously. I'm still waiting on the update that allows auro and atmos to both work proper without the amp assign stuffs. Wasn't that supposed to be back like September?

I'm hoping DTS-X is true about being able to adopt to any speaker placement which would mean if I'm in Dolby's spec, it will work for DTS. I'm not worried about Auro since I'm a Yamaha guy and I don't see Auro coming that way....ever. So my plan is to mount these overheads and not have to move them ever. The only change I may make (down the road) is to 7.1.6 when the .6 is more prevalent in processor's but I'm not sure if .6 would be that much of an improvement over .4 unless your room is significant enough in size.

Same here for a few more feet in width as I only have 12'. I'd gladly re-allocate 2' of height to width but we all have to work with what we have.

Will do on the pics.
