Today I ordered:

3 Quints for LCR
2 T8s for Wides
6 Slant 8s for Heights and surrounds

Also ordered a Denon AVR4810CI and picked up a Wyred 4 Sound 5 channel amp on Audiogon to drive the fronts. All that's left is to decide on the sub (s).

Christmas will be a lot of fun

Congrats Mathelo! Sounds like you're going to be in audio heaven soon. What are your choices for subwoofage?

I've been looking hard at the Danley DTS10 and also considering a DIY LLT. Any choice will go in the attic space over the listening room. May do multiples.

Me too!!! This is a huge upgrade for me considering all I currently have are the speakers hanging on the side of the plasma.

I use to have a fairly nice 2 channel system but nothing like what this will be. And now a days most of my music listening includes a movie.

Sounds awesome.

A quick question as I do not know much about 11.1. Why not use the T8s rather than S8s for side surrounds since they would be playing back discrete information and using the 6 S8s for the matrixed wides, heights and rears.

The S8s are the Slant 8s and while they have a wide FR they really aren't full range speakers. The Triple8s are closer to full range and a closer match to the Quints. Using the Quints would be best for the Wides but over my space and budget allotment not to mention probably unnecessary.

Louis

EDIT: Attached is the room layout. This might help better understand what I'm doing. There is no room for T8s as surrounds.

That will be an awesome setup Louis. I hope to be setting up a pair of Slanted 8's as height speakers this weekend. Like your Denon, my new Integra (DHC-80.1) supports DSX and I'm anxious to try it out. Unfortunately, I have no room for wides.

The one thing the Denon does that the Integra supposedly doesn't is support BOTH Wide and Height together at the same time.

That is going to be amazing. You are going to love your JTR's

Thanks for the information. Are the surrounds, rears and heights all going to be attached to the ceiling? What finish did you get?

The Integra is 9.2 (your Denon is 11.2) so on the Integra you can use both Wides and Heights but at the expense of the surrounds backs. Luckily this is a non-issue for me.

My friend came over and heard my single triple 8 and immediately went to look and wanted to buy one for his center.

This is amazing because this is a guy in a small apartment with htib type speakers who just bought a blu ray player and wasn't that into this stuff and NEVER would spend this kind of money. I guess you have to know him to see how ridiculous him considering buying anything like this would be.

I will flush mount the surrounds, rears and heights in the mansard portion of the ceiling, which is already at a 45 degree angle. The elevation and distance aren't perfect but I think they'll work well enough in those locations. I also plan to install them so that I can adjust the tilt if needed, since I think I may need a bit more than the 45 degrees ... or I may find out less.
