I am just curious how superior they are to the 4593 in the 212's.

Sorry but I do not have any experience with the 4593 or the Noesis 212. Can anyone else chime in on the differences between the 4593 and 4594 cd's?

For the Single 8HT series speakers, they are rated as 8ohm impedance. In your experience, any problems driving them with a modern receiver that does NOT claim 4 ohm compatibility? I know the 4 ohm speakers like the 228 and 212s do need amps that can handle their low impedance. With the Single 8s, even though they are 8 ohm rated, they still have very high efficiency that seems to me they might actually be more of a problem being driven by amps not rated for low impedance.

Reason I ask is I need to replace my older Elite receiver with something like a Marantz 7008 or go with the Denon 4520 if I truly need 4 ohm rating. I do have a 3 channel Emotiva to drive the 228HTs so that should work for the front channels. Just want to be able to run 4 of the Slant 8 surrounds from the built in amps of the receiver without issues.
Thanks! Pete

I ran some of my S8's off of a onkyo 607 ( a very whimpy amp selection) and they could easily make your ears beg for mercy from likely 50 watts or less.

If you have an Emotiva to drive the three 228HT's you're laughing. The Pioneer amp shouldn't have any issues powering the S8's. My Pioneer receiver wasn't even rated 4ohm and I could driver my three 228HT's and four Axiom Audio QS8 surrounds.

Placed an order today for three 212HTs with 24" stands for my new basement theater. My three existing Quintuples will be performing the surround duty with an existing S2 for LFE. Finally, a full 6.1 JTR setup. Can't wait smile.gif

Also, I just finished building a minimalistic screen wall for recently purchased Seymour 125" screen and am currently paining the theater room flat black with Rosco Supersaturated Velour Black (# 6003) which turned out to be amazing.

Just curious...has anyone setup a system with 8HT for LCR and surrounds? Based on the specs, it seems like it would be great for rooms up to 2000-3000 cu ft at least.

Also, the 212 gets raves for music. How does it compare with the B&W 802D? Granted 212 needs a sub and the 802 is full range. Just trying to understand something I've never heard.

It would be great! but for a little more a LCR 228HT setup would be better.

But with that said I'm sure a LCR setup of S8's would be able to put a lot of different speakers costing the same or more to shame.

That's almost $1400 more.

Was that shipping with FedEx? I hear they charge a lot for customs processing on top of the tax just to push through customs,

No I live close to the border, so that was with me shipping them to a holding company across the border and going down and bringing them across myself. You still have to pay the taxes when you do this but you're not paying the crazy cross border freight charges and brokerage fees that the couriers would charge you.

I'm thinking of doing the same. The border is only 40 mins from me... I can't imagine the crazy brokerage fees on a $10K order.

When I got my 2 x Noesis, I only paid an extra $340 and most of that was taxes. Jeff ships out Fedex Express not Ground, MUCH lower duty/taxes/brokerage.

So with FedEx Express I believe they wave the brokerage fees. You would just end up paying the taxes like you mentioned and there should be no duties on JTR speakers as they are manufactured in the US. The only added price would be the cost of international shipping from the US to Canada.
You paid $340 for the shipping plus the taxes on top of that, I paid $180 plus the taxes. Since I only live 5mins from the border clearly that was a better option for me, as I saved an extra $160.

I paid $340 for everything, thats including the taxes/brokerage , shipping was $150 for both together. ( I would have had to pay the taxes no matter what if I bought them in Canada) It's always a better option to pick up at the boarder if possible, just saying that fedex express is not to bad as far as them, UPS and fedex ground go.

Happy holidays everyone !

Seems a lot of end of the year orders are happening and that is good for the JTR brand (as long as the notoriously hardworking JP can meet the delivery schedules wink.gif ). I have committed be guinea pig for the the new Noesis 215's. I will be getting LCR 215's in March. I will be hosting a demo GTG at the end of the month (weekend of the 29th) so any of you in the neighborhood should plan on attending. Jeff plans on being there as well to help with the setup. Should be a fun time and a chance to hear some very interesting (and hopefully amazing) speakers ... smile.gif

At this point and after several conversations with Jeff, I am thinking that the 215's will provide enough bass and so the OS's will be sold. I will be listing them on AVS in Jan but if anyone wants to make me an offer I can 't refuse, I'm all ears.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all of you fellow HT crazies !!!!

That is awesome Rob. I can't wait to hear first hand reports.

I sold my T12 and T8 center recently (with delivery not happening until March) so will also be in the market around March/April as well. For me the 210T are probably the only realistic choice based on physical space available to place speakers...unless I went your route and sold my S2 subs to make room. In that case I could go 215 all around as well. Did you ever figure out how to get the .1 bass channel to route to the LCR speakers? Are you going down the HTPC route to be able to do that? If my pre/pro could do that, I would consider going the same route. Let me know your thoughts.

Yeah, just be careful. Because you could be in for a shock and remember N8DOGG only had two speakers shipped in the shipment he's referring too. From the sounds of it Gunner you're shipment will be a whole speaker system. So that's going to cost a lot more then $340.

Looks like three new 215T's would set you back between $10,500 and $12,000 depending on final pricing from Jeff's cabinet guys.

Still working out the specifics on LFE to mains but it will get done smile.gif I think the 210's with your S2 would be as good as it gets. I'm just totally enamored with the idea of LCR's with 6 15" drivers and no additional subs. Hope it all works.

.

TBD but i'm confident it will be enough as i am probably only using 25% of what the OS's have to give in my day to day use. Some of you younger dudes with your bass heavy tunes have different requirements.

Just to be clear, this is not a need based change and may not even be an upgrade. It is my primary hobby and I like pushing the envelope a bit. smile.gif

215 might be 'overkill' for center (blasphemy, I know). Something closer to a 212/228 would be sufficient. Jeff did mention over on the JTR forum thread he is working on something for center.

With everything in a single cabinet, hopefully the number will be a little less per unit.

speakers for sale: Elemental Designs Cinema 6 eD6c ~ bookshelf horn speakers
my speakers: jtr 212ht lcr, 8lp surrounds, dual orbit shifters

I'm sure one could easily use a 228HT or 212HT as a centre channel with the 215T for L/R.

My Gear:

JTR Noesis 228HT (LCR)
Axiom Audio QS8 surrounds
Sherbourn PA 7-350
Pioneer VSX-21TXH
JVC RS45
Falcon Screens FVHD105
Dual PSA XS30's (gone but not forgotten)

I sold my T12 and T8 center recently (with delivery not happening until March) so will also be in the market around March/April as well. For me the 210T are probably the only realistic choice based on physical space available to place speakers...unless I went your route and sold my S2 subs to make room. In that case I could go 215 all around as well. Did you ever figure out how to get the .1 bass channel to route to the LCR speakers? Are you going down the HTPC route to be able to do that? If my pre/pro could do that, I would consider going the same route. Let me know your thoughts.

Im glad you sold those speakers wink.gif March cant get here fast enough for me.
