Better than Quebec Magnetic? I like that disc, but could use a better representation if Through the Never is that much cooler biggrin.gif

Haven't seen Quebec yet but have been meaning to pick it up. I'm sure somebody with JTRs has seen both...hopefully they'll chime in. I have the Big 4 DVD but haven't watched it on the main system yet.

I've own pretty much all the Metallica concert disks. The best sounding since Blu-Ray's came out is the one from Mexico IMO. Quebec, Nimes, Big 4, etc. are all very good but not as good as Mexico.

http://www.amazon.com/Orgullo-Pasion-Gloria-Noches-Blu-ray/dp/B00315RRD4/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1391485077&sr=1-1&keywords=metallica+blu+ray+mexico

I have the dvd version because it has more songs.

Now, I have a feeling Through the Never will beat them all because of how incredible it was in the theater. I'm about to find out. I'm watching the new Black Sabbath blu-ray and plan on watching the Metallica blu-ray next.

Toni Iommi is still so spot on 44 years after their first album. Thank god for Toni, no metal without him.

It's funny watching Toni and Geezer react to Ozzy on stage. They just smile and shake their heads (in a nice way) when Ozzy hobbles/shuffles over to them.

Just wanted to share unboxing pics of the 8LP. What a great looking speaker...seeing this type of two in one design was a first for me and it's pretty cool how you can see the CD behind the dome screen. Build is extremely solid, just like all other jtr speakers I received....including all packaging.

Pics...so it happend wink.gif

asoofi1 you fire those OS's up yet?

Got the avr just a few hours ago. Finally getting a chance now to start wiring up. Really anxious...going to be hearing something I've only read about for over two months...feeling is surreal. Almost don't want the suspense to end, if that makes any sense.

I had ordered the sr7008 prior to the 4 ohm support question came up (it can per marantz), so I'm going to test it out since it's here. Plan to a/b with the 8801.

What is the size of your room? From the video it looks like you are going to have the front stage and video on one of the long walls?

15'9"x20'5"
The house was built with a basic 5.1 wiring with this room configuration, so I'm just going to use the in wall wires temporarily to test sound. I haven't made a decision to keep it wide or go long, but I'm leaning towards the latter. Plan is to demo the sheetrock and properly seal room.

No I don't... it was like 50 when it came out if I remember right. I say don't bother. You can watch the entire concert in HD on youtube (at least you could last I checked) and this new Blu-Ray is so much better than any concert disk I've ever seen/heard.... by a lot. Hmm you don't get Dyers Eve though, but that's on the Mexico disk.

Whaaaaat? $200 for a Metallica concert Blu Ray? Gotta be a real fan for that. I was looking through the Amazon reviews and someone mentioned it is cheaper on the Metallica site.

An amp that sounds very different from another is a broken amp, all it should do is amplify the signal, thats it. They "shouldn't" sound different and they ones that possibly do? they are broken designs.

I'm 100% with Carp and Archaea. Having had over 40 different amps counting my pro and HT version, I've yet to hear any significant difference between any of them and any level other than clipping.
I honestly do think people that hear huge differences are nuts, I completely write them off and pretty much would never take their advise on anything (sorry lol) Slight differences? Sure it's possible, I don't personally hear any, so some guy on the internet isn't going to "convince me" that they do, thats for sure. Same goes the other way.
There are certain people on AVS that I respect their info and input and would take their advice in a heartbeat, then there are others that I wouldn't take their advise on dental floss, since I think they are tools (though not many in this thread, this is a great bunch of guys and the only thread on the internet that isn't full of BS biggrin.gif)

It's a fun hobby, we all like to try out new stuff but too many people get caught up in audio. Super flat response's, graph this, graph that. Blah. It's fun to tweak but in the end, isn't it your own personal enjoyment that you really care about? I setup my system how I want it to sound, whether that means someone agrees with me or not makes no difference. How many times has someone said " thats not the way the director intended it to be heard" LOL, gimme a break, who the hell case what some director thinks, I bought the movie, and I'm gonna run my subs 15dB hot, so get outta my way, cause here comes the bass!!!

Rant over tongue.gif

I agree with everything here...

I never understood the meticulous measuring either. I just set things up to sound as good as possible to me graph be damned... for music I like it with less bass... for movies I like the bass hot. And I like thx movie mode on the onkyo...

And to add to the amp debate... I think I agree that there might not be an immediate difference at the same volume but when it comes to receivers what makes the differences to me are the dsp modes... my brother's yamaha doesn't have the movie mode I like on my onkyo and none of the modes on his yamaha does it for me. I am sure if I played them below clipping is stereo mode that they would sound the same. I just don't like stereo music anymore... I much prefer multi channel music and this is where a more expensive receiver makes the most difference... they have the modes I like...

And the other thing to consider other than the dsps built into the receiver is the power or wattage. My marantz 100 watts per channel receiver just didnt have enough juice even with the efficiency of the 212s for me. When played at the volume I like the clip lights are always on... any louder abd the receiver goes into protect mode... thats where my 10000 watt clone came to the rescue... you can never clip this monster... until I got my onkyo 3009 I much prefer my clone to the marantz... the onkyo puts out 140 watts into 8ohms n I think it goes way higher for 4ohms which it is stable down to. I like the mode on the onkyo better as well... and now I can play at the volume I like without clipping... end of story...

Today I spoke to a designer he told me years ago at a client he could even tell which mixer was connected smile.gif
They swapped the 2 mixers over and over again and he got it right all the time smile.gif.

As I told before I managed to sell power amps to a speaker company because according to him he could hear a difference.
Or I was good in sales, I doubt, or he was a fool and the other guy who has been designing speakers for the last 40 years believes to be hearing differences (could be)

In the end, well who cares, if you hear no difference then be happy, makes stuff much easier, just go with the cheapest solution.

But what kind of amps does Mr. JTR use for testing, designing speakers and subs.
Behringer Inuke, alarm clock, Philips Wake-Up Light?
