Has anybody got the Triple 12HT up front and the Slanted 8's for surrounds that can mention the tonal differences, I hear a lot about the surrounds needing to timbre match the fronts for seamless panning eg. helicopter passing over your head etc etc.

I was planing to get the Triple 8's and S8's to match up, but, in the land of OZ secondhand Triple 8's I have never even seen for sale, so I jumped on a set of Triple 12HT's and S8's from the same seller.

Really hoping they timbre match ok. I read somewhere that timbre matching is most critical with the tweeters, I know the S8's I have (2011 model) use the BMS4550 cause I took them out and had a look. Anybody know the CD Tweeter in the T12 (2011 model) BMS 4550 also?

edit: I guess I will have to pull one out and have a look eek.gif

exactly. I am not up on the output calculations but I'm quite confident you sub output (even before you get you 215's) is more than three OS's. I'm just trying to keep up! In all seriousness even though I have worked extensively with the minidsp but I think having all three of the same sub will ultimately yield better integration for my room than my current mix of sealed and horn. Just my speculation but time will tell.

Your new set up with the 215's and all of your subs would be something I would really want to hear in person. Safe to say you won't be using the mid bass modules anymore?

So the pro amp has no hiss and the Audiophile amp throws a hissy fit. Needless to say, the LG is staying.

Funny thing is I had that issue with the Wyred when I first bought it. I tried every thing and then cheater plugs worked. A few months ago I removed the cheater plugs one day and there was no hiss. I can make no rhyme or reason out of this.
Rob what gain structure on you running on the LG with the dead silent results?

I think you're thinking Frohlich, did it look like this?

I haven't seen any custom 212's with the wooden horn.

I too am interested in why some are doing custom horns? Are you taking the 212 horn and placing it in the 228? If that's done would it give you similar results when crossed over at 80 vs the regular 212?

it has been done because of size constraints with installation at the home.

As far as I know Jeff isn't offering wooden horns in the 212's, of course if you were set on it and willing to pay I'm sure he'd do it. I don't think there's any performance improvement with them either.

That picture that I posted of the 228 with the wooden horn is Frohlich's and it's a custom center channel using the cabinet of the 228 along with the 8" drivers and a wooden horn that allows the 4593 compression driver to work in that cabinet. I think Jeff called it the 318HT on facebook.

****correction***

He calls it the 328HT smile.gif

Do you plan to run the center channel horizontal or vertical?

See that's exactly the reason why I personally wouldn't get a molded wooden horn, you'll always be stuck with using it horizontally. What it you wanted to change your setup down the road and run it vertically? And then I think you're also limiting yourself if you wanted to sell it down the road because the same thing might apply to the potential buyer.

Plus I'm sure it'll cost a lot more then the standard 212. I believe Frohlich paid the same price as the standard 212 for his customer center channel.

If the price is not right then yea maybe I might reconsider. But I don't think I'll ever use it vertically with the 215's. Besides Jeff does REALLY good with prices when you buy a whole big package one time. wink.gif

The wooden horn looks cool, I just couldn't imagine paying more for it when it doesn't offer any real performance difference and actually limits what you can do with the speaker.

What happens if down the road it wanted a projector/AT screen?

Then my wife will kill me.. Lol.. But you have a point though. Like I said if it is a huge price difference then I might reconsider. But I hate the "I wish I did it that way" thought later. You know what I mean?

Of course I do!....lol
But the fact that you're limiting yourself is what I'd personally have a had time with.
I'm a perfect example of that, I built my room and had my centre channel horizontal. Then out of no where I thought "hey wouldn't it be awesome to redo my setup and use an AT screen".....lol

Jb.. Talking about the wooden horn.. Wouldn't Jeff some how made it so it could be serviced? You know if the horn fails or something. Like the 210 and 215. I wonder if the horn is accessible if something goes wrong with it?

I log on this morning and you are posting pictures of my baby center channel with no clothes/grill on...how dare you sir...how dare you!!!!! tongue.gif

Rhed, I will say my center channel pictured above matches my 212s very well sonically so I assume it would match up well with the 215s as well since they would all have the same compression driver...if you end up going that direction.

It sounds great. I would have liked to end up with some 212's but at this point in life, just hit 30, this system is suffice. Music sometimes will grab me and sometimes not. Seems to live on that edge. Seems CD's are sounding better than my ALAC files in itunes but I don't know how that all works. subs are beastly with my mini dsp and house curve. Surround overal is precise and snappy. The JTR's sound great and the vocals for movies and detail is very nice. No harshness witch is my favorite. Even louder than normal. They cover the range nicely smile.gif

I think that is a good call for a horizontal CC and the 215RT's.

I listened to a lot of M/C SACD and hi bit rate FLAC music last night and some tracks were sending a lot of content to the surrounds. I was impressed how well the Triple and Single 8's held up. It felt like I was inside a great pair of headphones.

After a three hour session much of it in stereo, I remain thrilled with the 215RT's. The huge soundstage, clarity, separation of instruments and vocals (tone and pitch) and the bass were all as near perfection as speakers get. Very much reminded me of my music listening sessions with my Revel Ultima II's and Fathom subs but the bass is tighter and better integrated and there is no limit to how loud the 215's will play. I should throw in all of the audiophile descriptions of hearing the most minute details and correct location of instruments in a deep and wide soundstage, It is more than just a wall of sound. It is very much like being at the live event. I am not prone to these flowery descriptions of loudspeakers but the 215RT have moved me to want to better describe what I am hearing/feeling. They simply are that good. cool.gif

When music sounds this good, with this amount of headroom, movies are guaranteed to be an amazing experience. Yep, I am on happy camper ... biggrin.gif
