The Revel Salon Ultima II's are some of the best sounding speakers I have heard. In full range stereo mode playing jazz they sounded fantastic. I would not trade my 215's straight across for them and I mean that.

Well actually, the wheeler dealer in me might want to pocket the profit on the exchange and subsequent sale of the Revels but 215RT's (perhaps the Auto finish ones) would be quickly re-ordered ... smile.gif

I took them apart as I mounted them into the ceiling at the rear of the room for the rear surround speakers of my 7.1. Another pair of Slanted 8s will be mounted up high on the side walls for the side surrounds.

Before I get to the internals of the Slanted 8, here is a picture of the 2x12 mounting plate I put up in the ceiling. I cut and glued a square mounting base of 2x3s underneath and that base is screwed into the side of the joists while the 2x12 mounting plate (shown) is screwed into the square mounting base made of 2x3s.

And here is a side view of the Slanted 8 mounted in the ceiling. Now my wife and I just have to fix the drywall and paint the ceiling and Slanted 8s. While we were doing all of this ceiling surgery, I also ran Cat6 for a HDMI extender and 12/2 electrical cable to handle a projector, which I will likely install this fall.

Here is the initial inside view of the Slanted 8. Also seen in the ceiling mounted side view, the cabinet construction is very good and it is an incredibly solid little box.

Here is a similar view with the insulation taken out. For an entry level 2-way, this seems like one hell of a crossover. (The big screw is a cabinet mounting screw that I'm using 4 of to make sure the S8 is mounted solidly to the ceiling.)

And here is a straight on view of the crossover.

And here is a view of the driver: back, front, and side. The side view gives a good shot of the BMS compression driver mounted to the back of the midrange speaker.

I love this idea for mounting the Slanted 8's! Hope you don't mind if I copy it biggrin.gif

Thinking of getting a pair of Crown XLS1500 amps to use for my LCR JTR T12s any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated wink.gif

When I ordered the 212s, I was so sure i needed tons of power to 'bring out' the capabilities of the speakers.

I thought about Crown XLS 1500s as well then found it's hard to get 240V versions. Amazon only sold 110 versions. Then i went and bought myself a LAB 10,000 clone which puts out 4x2000 watts of pure power. When I switched out my very, very old marantz receiver, i did hear a significant difference in terms of output, power and a bit of sound quality... but when i got in my Onkyo 3009, everything changes.. the Onkyo can power my 212s as loud as i want them, and i prefer their DSP modes... I guess never receivers have better DSPs... and now, my clone amp is sitting, alone, in the dark, in a closet... until of course when i build myself some MBMs...

Well the good thing is, all of us guys know what sounds good. Most guys don't want to except the fact that their over priced audiophile speakers would get spanked by any of the Noesis, especially the 215's.

They say not to judge a book by its cover and yet everyone does.. and i really have no issues with it.. it's just human nature...

In fact, I love the fact that my speakers look like some black boxes... that sets the 'bar very very low' whenever a buddy step into my room... the first thing they'll think is 'oh this can't be that good'... and I just love to see their face light up when i play 'Spanish Harlem' at low volume... palpable...

And then i always tell them to 'hey, try to lift this speaker'.. and they'll go 'whoa.. wtf.. is this make off?'

Haha, well I have to admit I left my car out in the driveway during the hail storm yesterday. Back in 2000 I got a check for 3500 for hail damage (the car didn't even look that bad either) so I thought what the hell...that would go a long way towards 215's.

Yes I know, I have a problem. redface.gifbiggrin.gif

Nice strategy...we all have problems or we wouldn't be here.

Personally, I don't like anything ceiling mounted. But they might be fine for rears.

I gotta say you gotta mighty fine lady there. I can get away with allot, but I know If I started cutting sheetrock and plucking speakers in, she might start swinging.

Just my personal experience, but I have not been a fan of ceiling mounting in my room. Particularly if you listen to mch, I don't recommend it. But ymmv.

I am going to wait myself to hear them next month. I really want to see how much I am gong to gain over my 212's and big subs. I also want to wait till my theater is done. I still have to buy a screen and theater seats, not to mention a small fortune in materials next week frown.gif

Add me to the list of former DT/SVS (9.1) owner sold to purchase current JTR/Seaton (5.2) system. DT system: BP2000s LR, CLR3000 C, BPVX X 4 Surrounds & ProMonitor1000s Heights and a SVS PB12 +/2. Sold everything except the ProMonitors which are currently being used as surround duty until I can purchase a pair of slanted 8s. My current 5.2 system (JTR T12s w/Seaton HP+ Master/Slave) blows away the old DT/SVS system biggrin.gif

Have you already purchased the slanted 8s for the sides? If not, why not go with the S8LP? For me, I don't have a right side wall to mount my surround to so it has to be ceiling mounted or plucked on a stand in the middle of the room (wife won't likely go for that). And if I am going to mount one on the ceiling it has to be both and your method will make it much more appealing to my wife wink.gif. Currently have my surrounds ceiling mounted and it sounds very good to me, but I have nothing to compare to.

Even better, guess who's going to do most of the drywall patching? I've trained her well after leaving a few holes in the walls for a few months when I ran CAT 6 cable. She finally patched the holes herself. She's pretty good at it too. Oh yeah, when we paint, she does the trim as I don't have the patience. biggrin.gif

Already have the Slanted 8s but I'm a woodworker so I could always rebuild them if I wanted to make them long and shallow to fit in-wall. Wouldn't be my first choice but thinking about how big those things are on the wall, I'm considering it. I really like the low profile in the ceiling. When I get them painted, they'll blend into the ceiling pretty well.
