I looked over on amazon at 500es projector..
Found this harsh review-

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/review/B00FB6MHW2/R367G1OA9FOMX3/ref=mw_dp_cr/180-2922460-8487736?cursor=2&sort=rd

Was hoping a 4 to 7k.. projector light canon existed?

I'm sure it outputs terrific image at that price..his negative comments hard to notice?

Imagine first meeting with dedicated home theater company..I want 7.2 JTR setup..

Haven't seen any of the problems listed. I can't even hear the projector.

Best thing is to audition it yourself. Image quality us literally leaps and bounds above other 2k projectors I have seen and this includes expensive jvcs...

And that is playing bluray 2k content

Ya, I wouldn't read to much into that. the projector has gotten nothing but praise from what I've seen from HT guys and reviewers.

Blasting brown notes for 10 years and counting!

I bought a 2 acre lot this week, there will be only one house closing in 60 days prior to first nail in the house. I have 30 days to finalize the house design plan with the hometheater. This gives the bank 30 days to approve entire loan package...

I have been following the JTR thread long time, but since I dont know any owners in FL, I never heard them..I stay quiet. Based on the luck I had with the Swan Diva 6.1 internet direct years ago...and the extreme positive feedback here from S8 all the way to the 215's I cant go wrong!

I want a large screen since right now I have the room 24' wide x 31' deep...I need a 1.3 true gain high quality screen...all AT screens appear to be 1.0 gain perforated...looking at Tek 1301.3 gain screen heard good things quite $$ Plus if Im going get these 215 6 ft monsters, I want to be able to see them!!

I know Rob has 3 standing vertical behind AT, but can you go 6 FT horizontal? Will Jeff push to me to a 212 center?

The picture is not drawn to scale, just grabbed an image for taking purposes... with 9 ft ceiling and using THX math, with 40" eye height row 1, you are supposed to have the top of screen not higher than 15-17 degrees.. so the centerline of the 215 center speaker would be 24" off the ground tucked against the bottom screen border frame.

Could ask the builder for 10 ft celing, elevate row 1 12 ", get the centerline of the 215 up to 36"

My other question is the surrounds, its been tossed around on this thread, but Slant 8's for surrounds, or go 228's all the way around for a large room?

appreciate any advice?

Thanks Vince

If you are buying the sony 500es thats a light canon. We projected it onto a 12 feet wide screen and it was still popping. This projector would have no problem up to 200 inches diagonal for 2d viewing. And the screen was a 0.8 gain. However for 3d viewing on a 10 feet wide screen it was really nice. Anything bigger and 3d might be too dim

I think you are too focused (pun intended) on the 1.3 gain screen. I'd ge the biggest 16:9 Seymour (XD material) that will fit. Get last years top of the line Sony light canon projector for a good price like the low miles Sony VPL-VW1000ES in the AVS Classified for $12K USD plus shipping from Australia wink.gif ). This is a light canon PJ and will light up that big screen in a light controlled room.

Then get 215RT's as LCR's and surrounds. Yes, I'm saying get 5 of them. Then see if you need extra sub support biggrin.gif. You could even have the builder wire the room for both mid side wall, and back 1/3rd wall sub positions as a just in case. You will need to know what kind of subs you might be running and use the correct cable type. If you go S2's you will need XLR. If you go DIY you'll need 12ga speaker wire or and or speakon.

So I say go for it! If positioned correctly, five 215RT's in that large room of your's would give you all the bass and coverage pattern your multi row HT would need. You would have a Home Theater to be reckoned with for sure ... In fact, if you go this way I'm flying down for a demo ... biggrin.gifcool.gif

Let the countdown begin...

My 212's are packed up and will be on their way to the new owner in the morning.

Thank goodness I have a crazy work schedule over the next month, which should help some. smile.gif

I'm running a 150" 16x9 Seymour at screen with a jvc rs4810 with no issues. I do have the room blacked out pretty well but the professional calibrator that worked on it had no issues getting acceptable results although it is at the bottom end of the brightness scale. I do not use 3d at all though...

Really.. But for me, it's not the count down till my 215's and S8's arrive. Those I know is coming. But what I can't wait is next year Axpona again. Wifey just gave the approval for the 5th and 6th S2. So I have a whole year to wait. But now I gotta get the electrician to come in and see if it's possible to add another 20 amp line. I think I'm just addicted to bass. eek.gifbiggrin.gif

You can upgrade your Main amp panel to a bigger one as well.

Yea. I was thinking about that. But I have a plan. Since my audio components and display is already taking 2 of the 20 amp lines. I'm thinking of moving my whole audio rack over to the next room where there's I think 2 more. But that was were I was gonna rack the separate amps at. I think the amps could share the line with the other components. Since the amps takes all of the juice.

I agree. With that size of room you really need 8 of them.

But I like moving them around. Besides I'm done doing garage work. Believe me, I've spent to much time in the garage when I use to race at the tracks a lot. Now that I have kids, 8 and 12. That is where I spend most of my weekend time. Besides, Jeff's a good guy. And for most of us already a friend. So let's help our friend out by giving him our business. None of us live forever you know. smile.gif

I hear ya on that, I was just thinking what you could really do with that though. Wouldn't be that hard either, just order 20 UXL-18's and 20 4cu/ft flat packs from Erich. Put them together and then find a automotive body shop to put a decent paint job on all 20. And a couple miniDSP's to EQ all of them, you'd have an insane bass setup then,

I'd recommend 16 UXL-18s as a pair of SpeakerPower SP2-8000 or SP2-12000 amps could drive all of them.

Yea, I've hung around the DIY section a lot before. Thought about it. Till my wife put some sense in me. "So, your gonna do work in the garage again?" Where in the world your gonna find time to do that? Your gonna burn up all your time on the weekends again. What about us and the kids? Stop being selfish! Then it hit me...

RMK-

5 x 215's scary but beautiful thought!.Jeff would have to offer sweet package deal?
So light canon through a AT Seymour the way to go...

Subguy-

that bottom edge on the lighting scares me some, of course a $3-5K JVC cheaper than the Sony big boys (10K+) But I might need the light canon, as RMK and coolgeek stated...

thanks for the guidance..

Island fever? When there on Oahu I had that feeling knowing I was on an island. I also have this weird thing around the ocean where I think about tsunamis all the time.
