Cool thought. I have some cheap little Definitive Technology speakers I have at heights and wides. With the PJ screen being mounted where my TV was, on the vertical neck the the TV stand, it sits away from the wall slightly a ft. And interrupts my heights path. So I am going to angle up and see how they do. They sit about 8 inches below the ceiling currently...

I'm gonna need a bigger amp! Jeff was not kidding when he said he had a captivator in each 215RT. These these things are amazing. I have a lot more set up, but the bass output is incredible. I don't think I will need a sub with these speakers. More setup and measuring today. I need to learn to use the DSP on my crown xti 2002 amp to get the frequency response a little more to my taste. Without a sub I don't have the option to turn up just the sub output. I'll try and get some pics up today. I built a custom shelf into the fireplace for the 215RM.

For those of us who can't be there to hear the blind tests, it would be very interesting to see measurement comparisons in addition to qualitative comparisons.

If some of you guys haven't seen the thread from thebland where Mark comes over and dials in 6 submersives you should check it out. Real good stuff from Mark about dialing everything in.

When you type in a number click enter on the keyboard and the new number will "stick". Is that what you mean?

As far as attack and release goes I'm not real clear on what they do but some of the guys told me to set them like they are.

Yeah, that is what I mean. I would type in a freq and then tab off and it would change it back. Will try using enter this time. Was able to set them all to 120.5 but that .5 was really bothering me 😄

Gotcha, yeah it should work. Sometimes I screw it up because I'm also used to the minidsp and on it if you change a number and then click somewhere else the changes sticks but it won't on the inuke without pressing enter.

IMHO, the coax's dispersion pattern isn't ideal for that application but if you had 6' tall speakers and 7' reflective ceilings ... maybe. Having experienced Atmos in a good 32 speaker Atmos Theater, you're not going to get that type of sound with little up-firing mains/surrounds. IMO, that seems like a gimmick to sell new processors/speakers kinda like 3D on a 50" flatscreen ...

All that said, I did flip my surround back Slanted 8's to fire up into the ceiling and like the effect that creates for the surround backs. If I ever actually do an Atmos configuration it will be by adding 4 ceiling speakers for a 7.1.4 Atmos setup.

Anxiety is contagious, please keep yours to yourself.

A minidsp would be all you would need but I prefer the dsp of the inukes for the speakers so if it were me (and this is what I did) I'd get an inuke to power the 215's and a minidsp for the subs.

Well, then you also need a mic to measure the response and a laptop to have the mini and inukedsp hooked into. It makes it easy to watch in real time the changes you make to the dsp and how they affect the frequency response. 12 db slope crossovers and high pass filters work very well in my room.

If I get invited and get to attend...I should have my pro quality microphone and preamp/interface figured out by then and I'd love the practice of taking measurements. If not I know many have USB microphones or the Dayton Omnimic and I'm sure someone would take the measurements.

For measurement equipment I'd recommend either purchasing the Dayton Omnimic V2 system (includes SW and mic) or purchase a CALIBRATED USB microphone (UMIK-1 or UMM-6) from Cross-spectrum.com and use with the free Room EQ Wizard (EQ) software, which you can download from HTShack.com.

Find a link to the old system? And if you do, you could probably make a lot of money as I'm sure many would rather revert. But sorry, I just looked too and I couldn't figure out any way to do it. Another bit of lost functionality.

I saw those when searching eBay for a used JBL 2226H. They must be 8 ft tall.

No doubt. That top horn is perfectly aimed to nail the sweet spot on that couch you have mounted 6 ft. up on the back wall of your living room. .

Reef Diver
I had dual Orbit Shifter LFUs. I was planning on keeping one just for movies, but so far I don't see the need. The 215s put out an incredible amount of bass. I will need a new amp, because the clip lights on the crown xti 2002(800 watts into 4Ohms) is flickering at times. I have been listening to mainly music so far, although I did watch the new Captain America the other night and thought the bass was more than adequate.

I thought the same thing when I saw them...they don't look so imposing. Your room must be big.

How did you mount the 215RM on the wall....I'm sure that's a beastly speaker as well?

What are you using for surrounds? JTR's?

Man, impressions are tough this early. Last speakers were 212HTs and dual orbit shifters, and like most here I have had a good amount of speakers through my living room: Infinity, Triad, JBL, Quintuple 8's, Yorkville Unity and a couple others. I also am using Audyssey on my Onkyo 5508, so that is another variable. Although the measurements on the Omnimic say I have the responses very similar at this point. I also am using the dsp on my crown xti 2002 for the first time. And if that isn't enough I installed GIK acoustic 242 ceiling panels, as you can see in the pic. I did listen to the 212HTs with the panels, however I did not rerun audyssey after installing them. I believe I'm at the point/speaker level where room, setup, and EQ to my preference will make the most difference. I think the 215s are quite different. Slightly less clinical and warmer would be my initial opinion. Maybe that is ever so slightly more laid back? Now the bass is quite different as well. This could be due to using the dsp to raise bass levels as opposed to raising subwoofer output. This allowed me to raise mid bass as well without the crossover to the sub being the limiter. The mid bass is better, but again maybe due to the dsp work. The interesting thing is the imaging is improved as well. This could be a result of the ceiling panels. So, not sure any of this was helpful to someone trying to decide between the two. I am very interested in your opinion of the M2s after you have had some time with them. I almost went that direction myself. After all two 212s and two orbit shifters is the same price as the M2s without amps. Although I would probably buy them with the amps.

When you have to fit a speaker as big as the 215RM in your living room, and your married, you have to be creative. I built a custom recessed shelf for the 215RM into the space above the fireplace. I also did the stone work, which she wanted, so win win. Surrounds are Single 8LPs.

Great job. I was going to say...there's no hanging the 215RM on the wall like that. Beautiful work!
