Well, the unit can be had for much cheaper than one would expect, and its scale-ability is undeniable...not to mention you get one of the best, and most seamless room correction software packages out there with it Would likely be a unit like the a1hd where you could simply send it in for upgrades for years. I yearn for the ability to try all that the altitude has to offer, but not at this point

Cheaper than $35K? How's that possible? They would be down to Jeff Permanian margins.

If I can get me one at a 90% discount, I'm in ...

I'm going to my local FYE store today to burn up a gift card and like some suggestions on CDs to purchase. I'm in the process of listening to new music and music styles. the last CDs i purchased were steve aoki, RAM draft punk and skrillex. i liked all those quite a bit and they really sounded amazing on the 228s and subs as well. I guess I'm looking for music that has everything from deep bass to powerful highs. i want a cd that will test my whole system to see how well it perfumes in all categories. I'm open to any suggestions and love listening to new music.

Well, in the electronic area, there aren't too many full length albums I would suggest, but a lot of singles for sure. If your FYE has a Bella Sonus CD I highly suggest it, but am almost willing to bet they won't have anything. I had to source mine from Japan after it was suggested to me. Another great one is the new Pink Floyd album if you get down with classic rock type stuff. Really great soundstage and immersive to say the least.

This was the bella sonus I referenced: http://www.amazon.com/Enamoured-Bell.../dp/B00004TKP0

It's not electronic, but more like super chill Weather Channel type music. Great if you are in the mood for it and they have some good fundamentals down to 15-16hz or so that are pretty potent.

A good speaker with massive dynamics and clarity like the 228 will do that to people I am essentially a consistent music listener. Not during work hours but pretty much any other time I am enjoying either my own music, or looking into new stuff. My genres span across pretty much everything. Not much classical, or country, but other than that I am wide open. The EDM scene is still pretty fresh to me but I have dug into it pretty good for the last few years. PM for some other great suggestions if you are yearning for some great stuff, won't clog up the main cool person chatroom anymore...aka the JTR thread

HDMI 2.0 with 10 bit video and hardware HEVC decoding was released today for the HTPC for around $200. Sweet!

Something that might interest you - I've got a pair of external crossovers coming in a couple weeks for my LS6's.

Where's the dislike button? Throwing out something about a cool new product but no linkage? Bad man...bad.

EDIT: I'm assuming DD is referring to the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 video card.

You are correct! The ASUS STRIX and MSI Gaming 900 series video cards have 0 rpm fans until the temps get fairly hot. I've had the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G for 4 months now.

How many movies have you seen that are 10bit encoded?

Why do people have to come with logic so often on AVS?

EDIT - And for the record, I'm more interested in the HDMI 2.0 capability on a computer than 10-bit something or other. Just shows that the computer will remain a viable option for the near term...depending on if it gets Atmos or similar recent codecs...which is a big if.

Hardware always needs to precede media. Nobody's going to put Ultra HD (UHD) Blu-ray's on shelves without the capability to play them. I believe Netflix's 4K content is 10-bit.

How many 4K TV's and projectors are 10-bit?

On Blu-rays on my HTPC, the chroma is upscaled using a 16-bit buffer and then reduced back down to 8-bit for final output at 1080p. Any upscaling is also done in 16-bit. With a 10-bit output, now many users can take better advantage of their 10-bit 4K display devices when upscaling to 4K. This has the benefit of less color banding and wider color gamut.

I believe that LAV filters already have that capability.

If you are talking about Atmos, LAV Filters can bitstream Atmos, but not decode more than the 8 channel "core".

Regarding JTR, which Pro speaker used by itself would be recommended for a crowd of 150-200 people? I would think the Noesis 3TX with the 90x60 horn would be best.

So when I was at CEDIA 2013 in Denver....this caught my eye. It was the Pro Audio Technology booth.

And I headed in for a listen... they were playing Thriller from This is It. They said they were averaging 105 dbs for the demo. I know Archaea likes that for demo material as well. The funny thing is that most coming out of the the booth said it was way too loud. I was jiggling like a school girl. It had me thinking I wanted 15s behind my screen. I knew I wasn't going to get a couple of 24s in my room like this tho....

Where am I going with this? I'm expecting Jeff to email me shipping info next week on the LCR 215RMs that I ordered. He said he was finishing up some changes to the crossover for the new CD.

Totally random thoughts here (oh no!) but you guys are the best ears I would trust and valued opinions are many around here. The other day I was using a little beard trimmer I usually never had but a couple times due to my main one dying. Anyway I noticed it sounded quite different between each ear. My right sounded generally normal and I only became aware when I went to my left side the higher (very high airy type frequencies) were much more pronounced. Almost too loud on the left side. It just got me thinking about the way we hear and how subjective we are from one individual to another let alone one ear to the other on the same head lol!

There have been 10 bit capable monitors and tv's for a while now, they just cost more than what most consumers are willing to spend. That and, the lack of 10 bit sources.

I knew I wasn't going to get a couple of 24s in my room like this tho....

Where am I going with this? I'm expecting Jeff to email me shipping info next week on the LCR 215RMs that I ordered. He said he was finishing up some changes to the crossover for the new CD.

Wow Randy, that looks incredible!! Funny that you were surrounded by light weights.
