What is with the aspect ratio on intersteller? I bought it last night but have not watched it yet.

I currently have my PJ set up for just 2:35:1 because I cannot set my 8000 to do both. When I set up 16:9 and goto zoom in to fill my screen to 2:35:1 the picture drops down. I believe my screen is to high, but I have the PJ lens at the top of screen so I don't know what gives? I can offset the picture dropping by the vertcle back by -10, but then the top of screen is chopped off. I have still noticed just running 2:35:1 heads are still chopped off, so I may go back to the way I had it set up. In the mean time like I said I just watch 2:35:1 movies as I really prefer to anyway as I cannot stand 16;9 movies on my widescreen. I know @BrolicBeast has a device that fixes all this (Lumagen Radiance) but it is pricy, I may have to look into it.

In comparing the sealed vs ported 212s at Frohlich's house, there is about a 6 db difference between the two from about 175 Hz down. So I'd suggest either the 212HT for the stronger midbass or if you want a really capable center channel that can hang with your 210RTs...and can swing more dollars and the size, the 215RM is one of my favorites in the JTR lineup.

The Noesis 212HT-lp was designed to be installed in a baffle which greatly increases the midbass so they have less midbass in a free air measurement. The Noesis 210RM and Noesis 215RM are designed to be on their own (without baffle gain) and have a flat response in a free air measurement.

I kept wondering the exact same thing when I watched Interstellar last week!...lol
I think the movie actually switches aspect ratios back and forth between 2.35:1 and 16:9.

That's exactly what it does...not sure why the director chose that but it didn't bother me.

It's a Christopher Nolan thang. He also did it with Batman. I have to say I love his movies and think he is one of the top directors in Hollywood right now.

Does the 210RT and the 2015 212HT sound almost identical from 400hz up or is there an audible difference?

Jeff, I've read this entire thread from page one and I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I've seen you post so much over the span of three days!...lol

We're all not that use to your presence in the thread. I also think it's pretty awesome that you raced in the Daytona 200 this year! Sadly it wasn't on TV in my area this year to watch.

Yeah, I've decided to be more active on the internet.

Thanks. The Daytona 200 and most other motorcycle racing hasn't been televised in a couple years. Good thing that websites like FansChoice broadcast them:

Hey all!
Wanted to ask a few questions about amplification to all of you who are running the 215RTs.

1. Any reason to go with an audiophile amp (emotiva, parasound, outlaw, rotel) vs a pro audio amp (crest, crown, qsc, peavey)?
Seems like the general consensus is pro audio = audiophile at a cheaper price point? (No significant advantages one way or the other?
I want to use these 215's for theater and music 50/50, so don't want to miss out on sound quality.

2. How important is the problem mentioned earlier about pre amp output line voltage matching the Amp input desired voltage? If fairly important what you are you all doing about it? (Separate pre amps?)

3. Other good brands to look at that are not crazy expensive?

Thanks for any advice here! Wanna to do this right once, and enjoy for a long time.

IMO you want a pro amp. The 215's can take 2000 watts and aren't that crazy sensitive like the 212's so you want to feed them a lot of power. The inuke's are the cheapest route. I like the 3000 dsp. With the 6000 you have a chance of having the thump/shriek at startup and power down. Not so with the 3000. You will only be giving the 215's 600 ish watts with the 3000 compared to over 2000 with the 6000 and in my testing I could get 6-8 db's more out of the 6000 compared to the 3000 before clipping on the exact same scenes. The numbers don't add up, I shouldn't be getting that many more db's, it should be more like 4 but I've tried it a few times and that's what I get.

Now, there is the issue that many say that the inukes are bad for highs and should be used for subs only. Jeff agrees. I honestly can't tell the difference and was a part of a blind amp comparison that was level matched and had immediate switching and I couldn't tell the difference.

Still.... I say the same about Tidal vs. Google Play. FLAC vs. 320. Immediate switching I can't tell the difference at all, but with Tidal it's harder to turn the system off and go to bed, I feel more addicted than with Google Play. Could definitely be placebo though.

I'm talking in circles here. To be safe I would recommend getting a very powerful but quiet/high quality pro amp.

Jeff recommends this if you want something with built in dsp:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crown-I-T400...-/360494842380

If not, get a minidsp for dsp and others could chime in on what pro amp to get. The D-Sonics are supposed to be awesome but they are pricey.

It's like any other "in" special effect, you'll see a bunch do it till people are tired of it. Remember when every movie, even animated ones, started doing the matrix effect?

I've actually noticed the aspect change on a few movies now. I notice it cause it wreaks havoc on my encoding process at times.
@carp , imo it's damned hard to tell a difference between high bitrate MP3/aac vs flac. The most apparent would be noise floor and extreme high end of the spectrum, assuming your hearing is good enough and room is quiet enough.

I talked with Dennis at DSonic about getting you guys up there an amp for a GTG or for an eval at some point. He sounded like he'd be good with it once he finished up his new chassis design.

I have had really good luck with the lab gruppen FP10k. It is really quiet as far as noise even with really sensitive speakers like the 212's. On a dedicated circuit I can barely hear anything with my ear up to the CD. Within 2 feet absolutely nothing. What is not quiet is the fan, definitely need to be in a seperate room with the fan noise. The thing I love about this amp is the circuit protection and VPL limiter. Amp is safe and so are the speakers. Little pricey but used can be good deals.

Lbrown - how big is your room that you have a LG 10K powering your 212s and 3 OSs? I'm pretty sure you have the Bugatti Veyron of home theaters but you only paid for an Accord.

Hey guys.

I just started my JTR journey. Received my surrounds (Single 8th-lp) this morning. Delivery from the US to Dubai in 2 days!!!!! That is crazy quick.

Cant wait to go home and listen to them. Stupid 9 to 5 work day!!!

Finally got some feedback on the 210rt on this thread. Looks like that will be my LR channels going forward.

210rm might also be my choice for center channel, based on what Jeff said regarding the 215rm and 210rm.

Congrats man, hope you like them. The 210RT's wont do ya wrong they got alot of appreciation at the get-together that was held this weekend. Very nice speakers and that was in a room with 20 people and very little treatments (behind speakers only).

Pulled the trigger and I can't wait for my 215RM's ... had a hard time picking between the 210RT's and the 215RM's but I trust Jeff when he says the real world performance of the 215RM is better. Going to be running this first with a Sunfire Grand amp as my room is quite small ( 320 sq.ft ) will update when everything's up and running.

By the way , any chance anyone has 1 piece of triple 8ht-lp so i can use my old LCR's as side and rear surrounds ? Thanks !

Ha...don't think it didn't cross my mind as soon as I saw the moving list...I quickly reminded myself I need to allocate for a 2-channel setup...heck, if I ever went nuts and decided do add more in the ht, it would be at least 2 more shifters for sure

Going to be running this first with a Sunfire Grand amp as my room is quite small ( 320 sq.ft ) will update when everything's up and running.

By the way , any chance anyone has 1 piece of triple 8ht-lp so i can use my old LCR's as side and rear surrounds ? Thanks !

Congrats. Let us know your thoughts once you audition them.

Thanks man. Since the speakers a completely front firing, will the bass traps at the back make a difference?

mmhmm yep. Perhaps I will have to spin it once with DSU and once with Auromatic
Of the many things I love about Interstellar, the soundtrack is out of this world, pun intended.

I think the rocket launch and the giant wave scenes could be good A/B between dsu and auromatic. Research away, sir.

Just sell one of your T8LP's to someone who needs a really nice small form factor CC speaker and buy the 2 Single 8LP's Jeff is selling in his moving sale.

Problem solved ...
