I purchased 3 x 2015 212HT. If I had a larger room I would buy another T12 and use them as my 4 surrounds. I am having difficulty accepting that I am selling the T12s for less then what the Slanted 8 costs to replace them with.

I don't think anyone has posted FR graphs of the 2015 models. That would be interesting to see.

I think they would be so close to the previous version that any in room response graph differences would not be the speaker but the room. The off axis response should be better on the 2015.

I am most impressed with being able to stand up, sit down, and walk 3' to my R or L without losing any of the Sweet Spot. My LP is over 15' feet back and I can tell no difference in the coverage pattern from the T12 coaxial to the 212 Horn.

Yeah, that's crazy. The triple 12's are just too good and at that price point, it's stealing ...

Anybody looking for an Atmos AVR or Marantz pre amp, better jump on them. There are a few in the AVS classifieds. 8802, 7702 and Denon X7200WA and X7200W. The 8802 is priced nice @RMK The 7702 is priced very well also!

I'm thinking maybe they can't be upgraded to DTS:X. I think the 8802 can once it's upgraded to the 8802a.

Probably just normal upgrading. My look on things, even if you don't use it, nothing wrong with having it when you might want it. I believe my X7200WA will be able to be upgraded to DTSX, but I am not sure. It does have the 2.2 HDCP upgrade. I think I read that the hardware was upgraded for DTSX, but not sure. I hope so, I am going to croak if DTSX is launched and I am obsolete!

@Pain Infliction are you and Randy OK? I seen that Houston is supposed to flood this week when the San Jacinto river crests. Hope all is well with ya'll!

I haven't spoken to Randy in over a week but my family is ok. There was a lot of flooding on Monday night all over but not in my area. The san jacinto river is on the east side of Houston and Randy is on the north side and I am on the west side so we are good in that regard but we have had rain every day for the last 3 weeks or more. More rain to come too all the way up to the end of next week. That's as far as I can see on the weather app on my phone. Thanks for asking though! I guess I should check in with Randy to see if he's ok.

I think you are safe for both HDCP2.2 and DTS-X as are the AV8802 owners.

Initial Impression:

Ran a 7 position YPAO measurement, popped in a couple of movies....Star Trek Into The Darkness and Book of Eli. I've listened to both of those a million times. Eli - The Gatlin gun scene and Star Trek - Chapter 9 so I'm familiar with them. The Caps come with the following parameters set on the back:

Gain - middle position
LF Adjust - middle position
Delay - zero
x-over - middle position.

I left them as they were, ran the measurement and played the scene's....I was underwhelmed. I thought where's all the bass I was expecting. I could feel the drivers vibrating but not moving excessively. So I thought, what the heck, I'll move the gain all the way up to max. HOLY SHIZNIT!!!!!! It was too much. It blew the grills off. The drivers were moving like crazy, my lights were flickering, my ears felt pressurized. The amount of air coming out of the vents felt like my leaf blower....amazing. Now I can't feel this at the MLP but I could when I moved closer.

I moved the gain to the 3/4 position and played the worm hole scene in Interstellar and I thought my room was going to collapse upon me. I need to re-run YPAO again with the gain increased and see how it performs. I'm running the Caps with the 215 at Large. I'm going to play around with the x-over point and the gain (and maybe LF Adjust) more to dial it to where I think it sounds best then I'll pull out the Omnimic.

This sub can deliver the goods....maybe too much depending on the person and I am pleased with the initial results. More time and more tweaking and I think it will sound even better.

I can't imagine the folks with multiple OS's.

Nabs,

That's awesome!! I'm telling you though, you can get the same type of bass out of your 215's if you boost up the bass using eq.

That underwhelming bass you felt when the caps were level matched is the same as what your 215's are putting out with the bass not boosted. My point is that you will get up to 6 db's more headroom of you boost up the bass on the 215's.

Ha, sounds like you may not need it but it's nice to know you have it if you ever do need it.

Hey Carp, what are you using to boost the bass on your 215's?

@Nabs17 Nice setup! No need to re-run your room correction software again. Turning up the gain on your caps will only make your avr turn the sub trim down and not change anything in the eq. Like you said, you should get a minidsp and really maximize your systems abilities. I bet those caps and 215's sound great already though.

Well my understanding is that YPAO (maybe should be WhyPAO) does nothing with the all important bass frequencies and you my friend have copious bass output. Sometimes, less is more ...

So what sub is that that has the all time best on data bass? I put in the g horn and the othorn and they are below that line so what the heck sub is that?
This may have been answered as I'm so far behind on the thread. As I recall the top line is from Ricci's own RE XXX driver in a huge custom ported enclosure. Was a massive sub that he sold the enclosures for quite awhile ago. Most impressive single sub ever! The design predates the G- and O- horn designs (it's been several years and my fuzzy logic cell is getting fuzzier by the day ).

The numbers for Captivator look pretty sweet. I think a system of Growlers (40 Hz and up) upfront coupled with a near field couple of Captivator's would a great ride for minimal $$$ outlay.

Can't wait the to see the HT Orbit Shifter data. Will probably be off the charts nuts for a commercial offering.

Thanks Pain...appreciate the kind words and I think your setup is very nice. I'm almost certain I'll get a minidsp...although not sure which one as I would love to play around with one and see how much better I can make my system sound.

I don't have a mindsp at the moment. I use ypao to setup distance and levels but turn off the PEQ. Then I manually make any changes I think need to be made. Right now I'm running the RT's full range and the RM x-over at 60. All 4 of the S8's, ypao has them x-over at 80 which I have no problem with. I do think there is something funky going on because ypao set the Caps at +6.0 and 18' from the MLP but set the 215's at 13'....which is pretty accurate. Setting the Caps at +6 is really a head scratcher for me and that was with the gain in the middle and what I felt was underwhelming.. The RT's are set at 0.0, the RM was set at -0.5 and the S8's were ~-2.0.
