Hi all,

Well the news was bad when after our move we realized that North American vanlines had lost one of my prized OMD-28 speakers! After a long battle with north american which I lost I was on the lookout for a replacement speaker.
Now that I have enough money saved up Vanns no longer has any more in stock and the whole OMD line is discontinued.
I'm pretty sure I won't find just one for sale any time soon, so the question is do I sell the last one I have and look for a new set of floorstanding speakers that will tonaly match the Mirage OMD-C2. Any suggestions for speakers? My room is large (28'X25') I have NAD Master M15/M25 a Mirage BPS-400 sub and Mirage FX's for surrounds.
Pretty bummed out by the whole affair!

cheers

Mike

You may be in luck, Vann's has an OMD-28 single (black) in the clearance section:

Thanks a bunch for that Batpig!! Looks like my last chance. Went ahead and ordered it, but am a bit concerned about buying one of their returned clearance items. Wonder why it was returned in the 1st place. Do they test returned items? Have never purchased through Vanns before.

Vann's is a VERY reputable dealer, they have awesome customer service.

People return stuff, who knows why? If it were returned because it was defective in some way, it would go back the mfgr and resurface as a "factory reconditioned" or "refurbished" item. Since this is simply listed as an open-box item, I would have to assume someone just returned it because they didn't like it or something...

Glad you have got a replacement, but can you explain why you lost the battle with North American vanlines? That is boggling my mind.

I too would like to know the story -- I mean, if something they shipped got lost, don't they have insurance for exactly that? it's pretty hard to "misplace" a 4 foot tall, 75 pound tower speaker and avoid liability!

Well, don't breathe the sigh of relief until you've got the speaker, checked the condition, and run it for a while.

Vanns clearance can be a roll of the dice (though the odds aren't too bad). If the item isn't as expected they'll pay to ship it back, but you're still out the time and effort.

For you it's clearly worth a try - but not everyone would want to wrestle 28's around and potentially have to repack them.

Hope it works out for you.

Well the situation was partly our fault for trusting that ALL the house contents got put into the storage facility. Not all boxes got checked off the list but the driver assured us that everything was there. All the contents stayed in the storage unit in San Diego while we were building our house in Baja Mexico. So basically when we finally moved our stuff time had run out (theres a statute of limitation on a claim) since it was just over a year. North American checked all their warehouses since I had the box info but as far as a claim went I was SOL! The fine print on the "insurance" was only $100 per pound of item anyway, so buyer beware on moving companies, they look out for themselves NOT your house contents. So lesson learned the HARD way.....
The speaker shipped out yesterday, fingers crossed!

Well I hope you get it and it is perfect. I couldn't imagine having to replace only one speaker as mine are only sold in pairs. I would be pretty pissed to say the least. I was hoping you would see Batpig's post before Vanns sold it.
