Okay, just got in the onkyo sr607 and want to upgrade speakers but I need to tell my wife which to buy for my christmas present. Budget would be around 600 for speakers and sub (roughly 300 each). Wife won't let towers fly....need something smaller. I have attached a rough (very rough) sketch of my den. The room wall to wall is roughly 13 x 27 or 28 or thereabouts. I would like to mount the speakers bordering (so size is important) with the tv in the front and in the rear it doesn't matter as much as long as they are not huge. guess i'm looking for 5.1 setup as it'll work with this room much better I think. the red boxes are speakers I have now that came with old onkyo HTIB . Mainly concerned with sound from directv (hr23), movies (hdmi m1330 dell), ps3 and 360.
Please let me know if you have any more questions...I need black color. THANKS!
BTW I know this has been discussed many, many times and I have searched and searched and searched...but I think each recommendation should be different for each room and there are so many choices I just got lost (ones that caught my eye were sets from polk, harman kardon and energy)
The Energy speakers are great neutral sounding speakers, and are very well reviewed. The A2-300 is the best you can get for $350 imo, very highly reviewed and suggested around here. This would make for a primarily HT oriented system, for more music listening, you would do better to invest more in the front stage. For your needs you described though this would make for a nice set-up.
