I am in the market for floor standing speakers under 200$ and if necessary, 300$. I have a questionare from a different thread that might help:.

a. What % of your usage will be music vs. HT (home theater)?
I will mostly use it for music and PS3

b. What types of music do you listen to the most? (classical/jazz, rap, rock, etc.)
Classic Rock and occasionally modern music (Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Linkin Park, Nickelback, etc)

c. What types of movies do you watch the most? (action/thriller, drama/comedy, etc.)
Action. I will also be playing a PS3.

d. How big is your listening/viewing room?
Medium

e. What kind of receiver/amp will you have?
Denon

f. Do you have a subwoofer or plan to get one?
I have a klipsch subwoofer and a yamaha subwoofer

Anyways I would really appreciate it if you could help me out. I also need high quality speakers that really show the detail out of the music. I also like to play my music a little louder than most people. Thank for all your help.

$300 is a small budget for floor standing speakers. do you plan to expand this setup to a 5.1 system? If you only plan to have a 2.1 setup in the future this might be your best bet.

Energy C-300
http://www.amazon.com/Energy-C-300-S...2383693&sr=1-1

$260/pr shipped. This Energy C-series line has been discontinued so you're getting a big price break. The matching center and surrounds are hard to find so if you plan to expand then this wouldn't be the right system for you. But for 2.1, this is very nice!

If Cherry color is okay and you like a brighter sounding speaker, consider the Polk Monitor 60.

For that price the Polk would be a great choice, About the only other thing I can think of in that price range that might be worth it is the Infinity Primus P252, and if you go that route your really better off with the P362's.

I was gonna add the P362 but haven't seen a sale on them lately. If you can find them in your price range definitely a good option.

go to best buy and listen to the Tsi300 and Tsi400. Same as the Monitor 60 and 70 in newer cabinets.

Then decide which one you like better

I also said these is because they are only 180 at new egg. If anyone can find any coupon discount for these please tell me. If it helps I plan to purchase them sometime next week. Also, is newegg a trustable source for speakers? Thank for all your help.

$179 is the discounted price for Monitor 70's. Never seen them lower than that. Monitor 60's can be had for about $129.

I wouldn't even consider the Sony speakers. Call me a snob but I only buy speakers from dedicated speaker manufacturers. sony makes electronics, tv's etc. Speakers are not their specialty.

newegg is a very reliable vendor. they been around forever and they've sold lots of polk and energy speakers as well as computer components, peripherals, etc. I buy from them quite often for computer stuff.,

Reseller rating of 9.69 out of 10.

I picked up a pair of Monitor 60s and so far I'm pretty happy with them and I've yet to hook them up to my new Onkyo RC160 receiver.

I would highly recommend them as it sounds like you're on the same budget I was. I went to Best Buy and listened to the newer series and definitely found the 3 speaker pair to be a bit more robust than the ones with two speakers.

Monitor 70's weren't in my price range but if they are for you I'm sure they're even a bit more boomy.

Now it's time for me to grab a matching CS1 or CS2 center to round out the system.

I did the same thing at Best Buy.....even tested out the amp that I'm most likely going to get. I was starting to feel guilty for trying out their gear and buying elsewhere until my wife walked into the listening room and said she'd just found the tv/audio stand she wanted us to get. It was twice what I wanted us to spend...but she's really happy with it. It does look really good and is very, very heavy and solid.

For music definitely go listen to the Polks and the Energys with your own music. Polks are bright, Energys are warm and neutral. That makes a huge difference for music.

Polk SL2000WC $3 DIY mod. Smaller the uf, the less harsh your SL2000 is.

All Speakers will play XXX music, if you want to enhance your music via the phsyical properties of the Speaker-- to the extent that is puts a positive bias on your style of music.. in other words. What speaker makes Rock, rock?

Good value speakers
Klipsch
DCM
Cerwin Vega
Energy
JBL
Paradigm
PSB
Definitive Technology
Axiom
Polk

Now, most of our opinions will guide you in a direction to what the collective (AVS Forum) thinks is good sound. Just click sort by most read/responded threads and see what ranks as most popular and best sounding.

I strongly recommend that you go to a specialty audio shop and hear what they offer. Don't be intimidated, because of xxx reason, if they are credible, they will help you. Most of all have been listening to various models for many years. More often then not they should have something in your budget.

If Best Buy is your only option, which isn't bad, go early or when it's real slow and quiet in the store. Bring your iPod and PS3 games and test the set up out. You have to do some reseach on this, this forum, the internet is only a small part of the process.

I see. Well as I said I like Pink Floyd and how everything is noticible in the speaker. The model of b%w I have is SOLID ROCK MONITOR SPEAKERS back from the 90's. I would like to upgrade to floorstanding now. Also the place I live in, has absolutely no professional audio stores. (lubbock, texas). So bestbuy is really all i got. What is the bright audio compared to the warm audio by the way? What is better listening to in your views? Sorry if this post was a little confusing.

Generally, Bright audio has emphasis in the mid to high end (4k to 20K) of the Human Audio spectrum.. (20hz to 20,000Hz) warm as mid to low emphasis (100hz to 3000HZ)..

Some like to have everything flat.. +1,-1 db from 60Hz to 18KHz

you know as much as dislike Sonicflare's "Sonic Circle" Link

They do a great job labeling the subjective, or what sounds good to you, versus the objective, graphs, plots, spectral decay, accelorometers attached to the side of speakers to determine there enclosure derrived coloration.. ad nauseum.

There is a great deal to be said about subjectivism and objectivism. The real answer is you need a little of both to get something good.

20Hz to 20,000Hz is not mid to high range. That is the full range of hearing for the average person. Any speaker that can play flat from 20 to 20,000 is a very good speaker. You will not find very many that are capable of doing this.

I think you posted while I was editing my post, but it should be clearer now.

Almost all speakers cannot cover the full band, flat. Enter the subwoofer.

The Bic America Venturi DV84 is only $140 each from buy.com. I haven't heard these, but they are in your price range. The Infinity Primus 362 is only $150 each from theaudiovideosource, these are b-stock though. I don't what shipping would be. Of these two I would get the Infintys.

Well Today i am going to listen to the polks at bestbuy and I am bringing my own music. I also would prefer a minimum of three speakers in each. The ones with two speakers, well just dont look like they are going to get the job done.

For music Polks are too bright for me. You might just need a sub to go with your B&W's. How do they sound with music? Most modern entry level speakers are designed for HT and not music. All my 2 channel speakers are 20+ years old.

Ok I think I have made a good decision. I am going to go with the Polk Monitor 70 and would like your opinion. I also went to to a professional audio store and found that they carry phase technology, and had speakers for about 150 each but where bookshelf speakers. BTW I already have a subwoofer for my B&W

Ok I am 75% sure about getting the Polk Monitor 70. I have heard that these have some cabinet problems and that is why you should buy TSI-500 instead. Is this true? Also I am getting these speakers because they are extremely cheep on newegg and I have a coupon. So basically I am going to get them and would like word on the cabinet problem. Also unless someone knows HIGH quality speakers for around 120-150 a piece then please tell me. Thanks For All The Help People.

Consider buying used. Scan Craigslist. i don't know about your area but in my area there is a lot of stuff on sale. people upgrade speakers all the time and then try to get rid of their old ones. Speakers are passive components (at least the vast majority is) so they are not likely to break and can go for 20 years without problems unlike many electronic products.

Probably the salesman at BB was making up stories about the cabinets. The only high-end speakers for that price will be on CL. It would be worth it to wait on some used vintage Polk SDA's which can be found for that price. You'll be glad you did.

The area I live in has almost nothing on craigs list and the polksda site you gave me has some really cool information and I might try to find those at a cheap price too.
