Hello,

I am looking into replacing my Bose Acoustimas 16 Home Theater speaker setup with a new in-wall / in-ceiling setup. I've been reading this thread and can't seem to find anything specific if there is a difference between a loudspeaker and surround speaker.

My setup will be used for a home theater w/ 6.1 surround sound. I found this speaker onsale (it's called a loudspeaker... Energy Veritas V2.2HM) and was wondering if it would be good for my home theater setup (for the front left and right speakers). Also, will this speaker need to be mounted horizontally or can I mount vertically (without loss of sound quality)

Any other suggestions for a nice 6.1 (maybe go back to a 5.1) surround sound setup for in-wall fronts and in-ceiling backs. I guess I'll need a sub woofer too. A $1,200 budget for everything

Thanks

That is a great speaker. Why would you want to mount it vertically, it's only 13" wide?

There can be a difference between the type / performance of speakers used for surround vs. front left, right, center, but there doesn't need to be. Not something you need to worry about. And if you're thinking of using it for music much, you don't want a specialized surround speaker.

Also see Audio Advisor for some Veritas options, including some in ceilings and the vertical version of that speaker.

Thanks for the reply Buzzy!

I'm just starting to research speakers. There's more to this than I thought there would be. I'll check out Audio Advisor.

Generally, there is no difference. There are specialized models for center and surround to accommodate those with design or WAF constraints.

Do not mount it vertically as that will place the mid and tweeter horizontally and that will compromise the even angular radiation pattern for which the speaker was designed.

Thanks for the reply Kal.

Do you think the Veritas are good (better than average) in-wall speakers. Do you have any suggestions with a $1200ish budget for a complete 5.1 or 6.1 home theater speaker setup.

Thanks

Sorry. I know little of in-wall or in-ceiling speakers.

It's good to be skeptical about opinions here, especially any one person's, so try a Google and forum search on Veritas in-wall

And if that doesn't answer your questions, start a new thread with the right title, this one isn't really your question any more.
