Do Paradigm's hold their value well or even hold up to age? I found a local set of Paradigm Monitor 5 floorstanders on craigslist and was curious what they might be worth. The owner is asking $225, but I'm sure he'll take a best offer.
They are in fantastic condition but not sure what their birthday is. I am also unsure of how their sound would be for a 2.1/3.1 setup in my living room. I'm not looking for reference levels (saving that for basement HT), just a nice set of speakers that will keep up with a Table Tuba and have some head room above my listening volume.
Also, If there are some nice tower speakers that you would recommend for under $400/pr, please feel free to make suggestions

A good way to get a feel for value is to take a look at Audiogon classifieds, even better is to subscribe to their Blue Book.
I've been looking at used Paradigm speakers there and they do seem to hold their value. Older versions are worth less of course, but there is still a market for them as often people upgrade/add to their existing collection and want to make sure they timbre match etc
