Still looking for suggestions on a receiver to pair with this system. As great as the Klipschs sounded, I'm not ready to drop that much coin, will probably go with the floorstandings, the BS41 rears and the center, which puts me around $500 for speakers, with no receiver and no sub.

FS51 @ $200/pr
C21 @ $80
BS41 @$100/pr

That's not $500. Closer to $400 unless you're planning to buy 2 pair of BS41s.

You should be able to find a 7.1 receiver under $400.

Look at Denon 1910, 1611, Yamaha RX-V765, Onkyo 608, etc.

Even with the BS21 on sale at Best Buy...

I'd still encourage you to go with the BS41 from JR for roughly $20-30 more (depending whether you have a 10% off coupon for Best Buy, and what the shipping costs are from JR).

With the BS41 and C21... you'll have matching 5.25" drivers (for better front end matching), and added bass extension in your mains.

A more seamless front stage and better bass in the mains is WELL worth the extra money, IMO.

Can anyone comment on the Klipsch RF-3 vs. the floorstanding Pioneers? Just saw some listed on the local CL pretty cheap.

Completely different sound. You should go to Best Buy and listen to some Klispch speakers to see if the sound is for you. Klipsch tend to be love or hate speakers with little middle ground. I'm on the dislike side.

Agreed... you have to listen... because many, like myself and afrogt... just don't like the Klipsch sound...

I find them bright and fatiguing...

Others would say they're crisp and detailed...

Yeah, good call, I was figuring in tax from BBuy and shipping on the BS41.

Thanks to everyone for all of your help in this thread. I'm psyched about getting this setup done. As a bonus I can move my Logitech system into the office so I'll have surround in there-- great for not getting owned at shooters...

Re: BBuy 10% off coupon-- they're offered pretty regularly. And my guess is that they'll put these speakers on sale pretty soon, seeing as they discounted the bookshelves this week. The rep yesterday told me they're having a Magnolia anniversary sale starting Friday.

Thanks. The ones I heard yesterday sounded good, but they were around $400/speaker, way more than I want to spend. Very detailed on the high end and pretty powerful on the low. On CL the guy is selling the pair for $150.

Don't make that mistake.

The BS21 is a different model than the BS-41 that J&R is blitzing out.

The MSRP for a pair of BS-21 from Pioneer is $89.: the MSRP for a pair of BS-41 from Pioneer is $199.

J&R is/was selling BS-41 for $99. a pair.

Neither the Pioneer website OR J&R included either a shipping or a tax charge. Get it? Free ship, no tax. WYSIWYG

(BTW - dimensions of BS-41 are 7 7/8" W x 13 3/4" x 8 11/16" deep.
BS-21 are about 5/8 - 3/4" smaller in each dimension.

The above is available in the Pioneer website by looking at the "Product Sheet" for any product, so if you have an urge to ask me the dimension of the towers, go there as that's what I'd do to get them for you, but I'm not your b***h..... )

specs on RF-3
http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/product...pecifications/

With a high sensitivity of 98db it wont take much to power them. They'll play much louder than the Pioneer speakers but you still have to like the sound. If you liked the Klipsch at Best Buy then you should be happy with the RF-3. Good price at $150/pr.

I wasn't going to go with the BS-21s myself, just posted the sale price for anyone interested.

Shipping from J&R is $11, no tax if they're going out of state. And you can use Amazon to checkout at J&R. Pulling the trigger now...

Thanks everyone! I'm limited on space up front - don't think I can put the BS41's up front - at least not resting on top of the credenza. Th B21's and the C21 will fit fine on top (see picture showing the Energy Take 5's)

When I was looking on JR's website, they were charging shipping.

The BS21 is 12 5/8" tall. the BS41 is 13 6/8" tall.

Is space that tight that the extra inch will make a difference?

jr.com does charge shipping on the BS41. I would still get it over the BS21 if space allows.

The width is a problem.

I just retook measurements. Thought I was going to have problems with the width but there's 8" from the side of the plasma to the edge of the credenza on both sides so it looks like they'll just fit!

Shipping is $18 for me but overall it's cheaper than $199 from Pioneer. Pulling the trigger now.

Hmmf! I've only got 7.5" from the bottom of the plasma to the top of the credenza. the C21 is 7-7/8" tall. Don't want to remount the plasma so I guess the C21 will sit in front of the plasma a bit.

A Question for the BS-41 designers or anyone who has already addessed this issue - how were these speakers expected to be mounted, given that they are sold in Pioneer's "Home Theater" section?

Is the enclosure material of sufficient thickness and strength to support screws in order to use a wall or ceiling mounting bracket?

My mistake above: J&R DID charge me $33. shipping for four more bS-41 speakers. Sorry about it. I didn't mispeak, I just plain forget that charge.

The C21's cabinet is curved though... so as long as it's pulled forward from the plasma, it should fit.

Just measured it, and the back is only about 4-7/8" tall. When sitting on the provided rubber bumpers, the back will only be about 5-7/8" high.

In your pic, it looks like you don't have the Take speakers pulled to the front of the credenza. You should have them flush with the front of the stand to avoid immediate reflections of sound off the credenza's surface.

Pulling the Pioneer speakers flush with the front of the credenza, I imagine you won't have any problem fitting the C21.

Thanks much!

I do have the Take 5's at the rear of the credenza instead of the front. I didn't think about the possibility of the reflections. During movies I'll set them or the B41's flush with the front then move them in the back when done. The wife factor will want them at the back when not in use

Yep, sometimes WAF gets in the way of optimal placement...

Could be worse... you could get the "No, those are too big and ugly" verdict.

Just got back from BBuy, went to a different one and they were much more helpful. Got to listen to the FS with the center channel and they sounded great at higher volumes, a little underpowered vs. everything else on the rack (Klipsch and Polk), so you have to crank them to get the clarity they're capable of. I really liked the sound; a bit understated on the low end, but the bass that's there is really clean. Will be picking them up over the next month or so, once I get a receiver.

Nothing good in open-box receiver, but he said they put new ones out every Wednesday.

would anyone recommend using different surround speakers as I prefer having satelites in the back?

i plan on buying the floorstanding and center channel and then buy 2 additional speakers to have as surrounds.

any recommendations?

anyone been able to compare this with the polk m70/cs2 combo?

It is not reccomended to drill holes in these speakers. If you
can't put them on stands - then buy some wall mount shelves.
Leave room, so that the port is not flush against the wall.

Sorry for all of these questions, but just a couple of more concerns with this setup:
I've been shopping for receivers all day, and I'm wondering how much power/channel I'll need. The BBuy rep said you need to push these things to get good clarity out of them, and that was definitely my experience today. The FS, BS-41, and center are all rated for up to 130 W and 6 ohms.

The Onkyo TX-SR608 (just under $400 on Amazon) is 100 W/channel. Will this be enough?

Again, sorry for newbish questions, just trying to get everything right before I start pulling triggers.

As long as the receiver can do 100 watts or more, at 6 ohms - you will
be fine. My 100 watt Marantz has no problem. I like the Onkyo better
than Pioneer receivers - and they were made to play with the Pioneer.

So the denon 391, 591, or 1610 wont work with this setup?

They all have the following specs for all 5 channels: 75 watts (8 ohms, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, .08% THD)

Most of the Denon's are rated at least 100 watts at 6 ohms. That is
just a 8 ohm rating.

If you get a Denon, make sure it's one with Audyssey calibration so skip the 391.
