The 3677s were delivered this morning by FedEx Freight. Man they look big and powerful...the finish was very surprised being it's a Pro speaker...it's much better than many speakers i've seen on the "pretty" consumer side of audio.
Within 15 minutes I had my Rockets moved over and the JBLs in there place. I placed a 3677 in each corner toed in about 45 deg (aimed a few feet in front of theater seats) If some aren't familiar with aiming this extreme it's done so the side seats are slightly off axis from the speaker on the same side as that seat but the one across the room is now on axis but farther away..it supposed to help equalize the volume when sitting to the sides. For now everything is on the floor but this still puts the tweeter quite high as these are large speakers. The center is aimed up slightly.
I ran some bass heavy music through them to give the woofers a quick breakin...as MK stated his 3622s sounded weak in the bass for the first few minutes. The 3677s were the same....the loosened up after just a few minutes.
I then used the test tones in REW to see how they sounded down low to help me decide a xover point. At 35hz the were shaking the freaking room
The sounded like powerful subs, down to 35hz that is. They roll off at 45hz but I'm getting some nice room gain.
YPOA (Yamaha's room correction) set them to large of course, but I set them to small and YPOA recommended a 40hz xover....I decided on 60hz to let my dual 18s in an IB earn their money.
The bass in Dark Knight and Iorn Man 2 is freaking awesome..it sounds smooth deep and natrual. The vocals are outstanding easily the best I've heard in my room. The overall sound is oustanding yet effortless... with my XPA-3 pushing these 99db monsters my system isn't breaking a sweat and I have gobs of headroom.
These puppies Image great..similar to the Pro-10s yet I don't feal any fatigue during intense action scenes as I did with the Pro-10s. (It was slight with the Pro-10s but it was there possible due to HOM). Everything is super clear and detailed and maintains it's seperation even when the action is crazy.
This of course is day 1. I still have a bunch of demoing to do before I begin fitting them into my wall and mounting them in the corners. So far I'm more than happy.
Tonight we'll probaby watch Shutter Island in BluRay..we haven't seen it yet.

I also upgraded the insulation to r13, it seemed to be even smoother as the jbl lining is very thin and I think it has some slight resonance issues before the upgrade.
Here's some videos done by professional reviewer Andrew Robinson done a few years after my review here.. I just wanted to add them to the first post here so anyone curious could quickly find a professional review.
