Hello all,

With the exception of two subs earlier this year, I have not purchased speakers from any ID companies. I caught the upgrade fever a couple of months ago and haven't found anything locally that has knocked my socks off so I thought I might try an ID brand. I'm going to replace my current 5.0 set which consists of a pair of Energy RC-50s, a pair of RC-10s and an RC-LCR center. I'm happy with my subs and am not looking to upgrade them right now

My room is 16x20x9 and is fairly bright so I'd like some recommendations for speakers that are a little more laid back than my energy speakers but are still accurate and throw a big sound stage, if that makes any sense. My receiver is an Onkyo 708 although I am considering an upgrade to an Emotiva amplifier in the near future. My budget is between 2-3K for all five speakers. Thanks in advance for any help

Lot of people like Ascends. I just upgraded to Canton's but if I would have had $1000 more dollars in my budget I would have went with Sierra 1's all the way around or some Paradigm's.

Panasonic P60ST50-Yamaha RX-V467 receiver-Sony PS3-Velodyne SMS-1-Canton 430 mains, 455 center and 402 surrounds-Rythmik FV15HP subwoofer- Pro-ject Debut III turntable- I also have a pair of Mark K's DIY design, the ER18DXT's
.

These get VERY Good Reviews and they are what i am considering replacing my Monitor Audio RS6 with. They come in Black cherry finish which is cheaper. matching center is the C3. Lots of people say that they will never part with theirs. Very Good Value. Swan Diva 6.1 and C3 center R3 surrounds.

Don't own anything - went up to the store in CT to audition them - smooth is a good word to describe them - also clean but not harsh - I liked them a lot - they're on my short list

Thanks for the suggestions. I love that shipping both ways is included in the price. Which towers would you recommend? I may be interested in the 6T or the Verus towers.

Thanks for the suggestion, Grey. Those are some beautiful speakers and according to your link, that model is in its tenth year and it still looks contemporary. Decisions....decisions

I hadn't really considered a monitor or bookshelf speaker but it looks like these are highly regarded and they definitely look nice in their custom finishes. I may have to reconsider my requirements for mains. As if I didn't have enough to think about Thanks!

My suggestion is to go with Salk Song Towers and a Song center for $3k and just use your existing RC-10s as surrounds.

Another excellent suggestion (along with SVS). I've found in my short time as a member of this forum that sholling won't steer you wrong. He's helped me with gear choices...more than he knows.

I will bring in two or three sets of speakers to demo in my home, I just don't want to spend a ton of money on shipping charges for speakers. When I say sets, I referring to the mains only I noticed the SVSound M series speakers are on back order, so I'm not sure they're an option. I am intrigued by the Salk Sound, Aperion, Axiom and Swan offerings, I just would like some additional opinions on the sound of each of them if anyone would care to share. Would you describe any of them as having a laid back sound, especially compared to the Paradigm Studio and Special Edition speakers or my Energy RCs? Thanks.
