The center speaker I have delivers a very muffled sound making the movies dialogue hard to understand.

I am looking at Klipsch WC24 and Polk CS20. Would it be a big problem with any of those since they are not timbre match to Bose?

Should I look at others?

Thank you.

Is your current center a Bose VCS10? Seems to be the matching center to the 161s.

No, my current one is a ten years old Mirage.
I thought about the VCS10 but it has terrible reviews

If you like the 161s, don't pay attention to reviews. The VCS10 is likely a good match. Here is another to consider (cheap) Bose 21

+ 1 - if you are going to stick with Bose speakers.

I disagree. This is one case where a matching center is a horrible idea. The VCS10 is terrible speaker...I used to be a Bose fanboy and had this speaker. I could deal with the bass module and put up with the tinny sound of the cubes (for WAF sake), but this speaker killed the whole setup for me.

I don't think there is anything out there that would sonically match the 161s, but I would definitely try the Polk CS20 before going back to the VCS10. Energy RC Mini, Infinity, DefTech Pro Center 1000, can all be had around or under the same price point as the VCS10. Miles ahead in performance, too.

Personally I would sell the Bose on ebay to a sucker and get a Polk CS10 and Monitor 30s

Or get some Mirage speakers to match his current Mirage center.

If you are going to rob Peter to pay Paul - then scrap the whole
stuff and sell it - like crazyrob425 said.

since he's having issues with his current center speaker, this is probably not the best route to take.

This is not an option. I hate the Mirage center and I hated the Mirage LR speakers I had before.

I have the 601 installed and I have no problem with them. Keep in mind that I am using this system 90 for watching TV and movies.
I need a center speaker to allow the movies dialogue to be as clear as possible.

Also, in the space allotted for this speaker the Bose will not even fit so I guess I will go with Polk.

True, very true. I'm running with the assumption he likes the 161s. Trying not to turn this into a typical Bose thread.

No danger of that with me.

Double check the measurements of the Polk speaker.
