Hi,

I am still not 100% sure if i am posting it at the right forum. If not, please pardon me.

I am looking for a home theater system (with a futuristic receiver) for my Panasonic 54' G20 plasma. my apartment living room is of the size 13 x 16 (approx). I have a budget of $800 (can push it a little bit if its worth it though).

I have found one deal in amazon where you get Yamaha RX-V667 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver and Harman Kardon HKTS 20BQ 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System for $699.

I have read very good reviews about the receiver, though i haven't heard anything (good or bad) about the speaker system.

Any idea how good this deal is? If this is not good enough, what would you recommend for a $800 budget (for both speakers and receivers).

Thanks in Advance,
Arun

Why you spending so much on a receiver and so little on speakers?

Good sound quality comes from good speakers not a receiver so might want to change your budget alittle

It looks like a pretty good deal, to me, though I'm judging just from a first look at the Amazon user reviews of the speakers and CNET's review of the Yamaha receiver.

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree that speakers matter. But I found this deal to be quite good (The speakers alone worth close to $600 if bought seperatly).
For the $800 budget, what receiver and speakers you recommend. I am thinking about good quality front and center speakers with subwoofers (I live in an apartment, not sure how much i can rev my sub though).

There is one more deal at newegg with polk RM75 speakers.
I think a good polk sub would cost around $125, so that would keep me within budget.

But the question is, are the speakers good enough. I have no doubt that the yamaha receivers is what I want to buy. Its just that i am getting tempted with these bundle offers.

I am ok to buy the speakers separately (even with a little more money) and thats where i need your help.

My main limitation is that for a foreseeable future, i am going to be in an apartment only .

One more preference is that the most important in the speaker system, for me, is the clarity of the dialogue. So I guess my center speaker is of high quality. right?

That's an oxymoron.

I think you'd be better with the Polk Monitor 30 bookshelves (2 pair) and CS1 center currently on sale at newegg (ends tonight). Add a Bic F12 subwoofer and you have decent speakers. If you're in the US you can then pick up a factory refurbished Onkyo TX-SR608 and still be under $800 shipped.

Doesn't matter what sub you use. You can mismatch subs with a system.
Just make sure your fronts and center match.
