Moved into a new place and no longer have room for my floorstanding wharfdales. Looking to replace them with a bookshelf pair. Room is a bit strange, as it's a large space that shares with the dining area and kitchen, but is sectioned off by islands and sections of the ceiling that come down a few feet. The living room section is roughly 12'x20'.

I've got a entry level onky tx-sr502 receiver, and the ceiling is actually wired for surround sound with wall mounted speakers, but am thinking I'd probably get more bang for my buck with the two bookshelves. No room for a sub. Any recommendations would help me start the search.

If you can find a pair of Energy RC-10 they should be able to fill that room. http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/energy_rc10.htm

If you call or Email them - you may get the price closer to $500 for
the pair. The NHT are good.

For just $100 more, you could get some B&W 685s. One of the best sub $1,000 bookshelves!

Sounds good!

There are quite a few bookshelf speakers in that price range. I personally like the Mirage OMD-5. Some others I like are Monitor Audio, PSB, Axiom, Aperion, Ascend, Mordaunt-Short, and Usher.

If you're ok with trying something new, I would look at the Jamo C603

Go listen to all these brands listed and get the ones you like! And I just saw the "no sub" thing. Get the bookshelf with the lowest bass extension. Some dip down into the low 40 Hz range. Look at there specs for that. But, still listen.

Sounds good!

These look rather nice on paper and the reviews I'm reading. Can they be had for under $600 online anywhere?
