We never intended upon turning this into any more than our getting to hear some great speakers, and enjoy each other's company.

Then I got the news that Jim Salk was going to get us a pair of SoundScape 10's...AND BRING THEM HIMSELF! I have to admit that having Jim Salk in my home with a pair of SoundScapes is likely the best part of this event. If Dennis Murphy could have made it, it would have been even more special.

This is where Nuance lost all control, and the guest list got pretty big. I am of course fine with all of this, because I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. At no time did we ever discuss changing the idea of all of us getting together to just hear some great speakers, and enjoy each other's company.

So here we are with a decent size group getting together for just what I've stated above. I guess I see this as a rare opportunity to spend time with a great group of guys that share a hobby. Almost every speaker in attendance should be special in it's own way.

I expect most to have their own flavor, and the only real competition will be between the Salk's as they should be voiced very similarly. I expect the Salk's to come down to driver capability and features. I don't know what to expect from the Philharmonic speakers, but I am more than curious.

3 pairs of the speakers will have the RAAL tweeter. I am also more than curious about its performance vs. my LCY's. I've heard lots, but now I'll get to hear them for myself; in 3 different brand speakers, and all in the same room with the same electronics. Again, a rare opportunity.

Two of the speakers incorporate an open baffle design on the midrange. I've never heard a speaker like this, and I'm very curious as to how this feature affects the sound.

Now we've got a couple more manufacturer's bringing their offerings. Again, this just makes things even that much better. I still don't think we intended to turn this into anything more than what it started to be.

At this point, I'm feeling more than intimidated. I certainly hope no one that attends feels like they wasted their time and money coming here. I think everyone has to get what they need out this for themselves. I just hope everyone gets the listening time they deserve with each speaker. We will do our best to keep things moving efficiently.

I look forward to seeing you all Saturday...and a few on Friday!

I just got caught up on this thread (thanks Nuance). And may I say, "What a great opportunity!" Seriously. I wish this was happening on the West Coast!!! I sincerely hope that you guys post plenty of impressions and pictures of the event. So that (as said before) those of us that cannot make it can still "geek out" with the rest of the speaker/HiFi geeks that are able to attend =)

Regarding methodology: Do whatever the F*** you want! It's your event enjoy the S*** out of it. ^^^well said TJHUB^^^

So very cool of Jim, Dennis (and Randy), Mark, and Jeff to join in and contribute in the ways that they are. Hopefully Ryan (from Vapor audio) is able to join you guys with a pair of his speakers as well. I think he is a very technical designer and I am curious how they actually sound...

Have a blast this weekend, and above all else... enjoy yourselves.
Cheers

Would love that. I mentioned Qik above. Live tweeting perhaps? Surely there will be tweeters!

(I crack myself up sometimes)

Seriously, this event sounds like great fun, it would be great for those of us not likely to ever attend such a gathering to see a bit of it. Maybe YouTube videos will follow. If not, the writeup will be enjoyed just as much.

Have a great weekend!

So Nethawk, once you get your Phils set up, when are you hosting the first annual Mid Atlantic GTG?

If the goat path up my mountain didn't often require 4wd or a crane to turn cars around once at the top, I'd love to. I will haul the Phil's to someone else's home to participate in one though!

Mark Seaton has confirmed he'll be bringing a pair of Catalyst 12C's and stands. Nice!

So we have 8 speakers, around a dozen tracks to choose from and somewhere 25 and 30 people attending. It's going to be an eventful day, so please try your best to arrive by start time (10:00 a.m. Central). Ryan from Vapor Audio mentioned about a month ago that he's leaning towards not attending due to a busy schedule; I haven't heard a response from him since sending an email 11 days ago, so I think it is safe to say he decided not to attend. This is unfortunate but completely understandable. Maybe next time.

I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow!

P.S. Can someone bring a decent camera and/or video equipment? The forum masses are demanding a good amount of quality pictures at a minimum.

very very JEALOUS!

I can't wait to hear the comparison between ST and Phil... I wish they had a DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4T in there as well for comparison and a pair of Zaph's ZRTs also perhaps some Natalie P towers. Don't forget Jim's "Song" towers as well...

We are talking some of the best loudspeakers on the planet here under... $5000? Perhaps even as high as $7000 when comparing to some speakers. It will be interesting hearing how Phil does against Jim's no cost flagships as the cabinet is such a similar design. Accuton are so technically and sonically superior to any other midrange driver I've ever heard... we know the outcome even before the fight! (but who can afford Accuton man... we JUST NOW can afford Raal)

BTW what kinda amps are they going to be using to power these babies?

Without a 'reference' to typical vs. high end, I hope I can still walk away knowing what I heard!?!?!

The Polk Monitor 70's -- $180 right now each at newegg would be a great generic reference baseline.

If timing was more loose - we could each throw in $20 bucks and raffle off the polk pair to a winner at the event conclusion. If the winner had no use for them they could give them to a family member or something. That said it looks like we have a pretty tight schedule, and there are some amazing speakers being auditioned - so if something had to be cut to fit it all in a day - I'd sure rather it be mainstream speakers cut than one of the these exciting ID setups.

I'm really looking forward to the event! Randy and I are making plans for travel from KC early Friday morn... I'm getting the BBC's LOTR on audio book burnt to cd for the long drive. As a added bonus we may even connect up with Jeff P. on Sunday and see his JTR demo room on the way back to Missouri! This outta be a fantastic trip! Thanks guys for hosting - it is REALLY appreciated!!!

I would love to hear your thoughts compared to Triad InRoom Gold LCRs!

Jeff and Mark have bolas grandes to bring product to this type of GTG. At least Marks speakers are powered and will be properly driven.

I hope Jeff brought his Lab Gruppen along. Hook that up to each speaker, crank AC/DC (is there any other way to listen to AC/DC?) and you would end up with some tweeters in free space.

Regardless, it should be a really fun day.

Got them both new in December, going in a different direction...

Heard from Nuance while this event has been going on, and they are having a great time... good lineup of speakers.

Mark Seaton has a certain video I hope he'll upload. It has two things in common - 1) Justin Bebier and 2) JTR Speakers!

Unfortunately not.... I have not been at work the last few days, been working at home, so this weekend was not gunna be a freebie...

I'm happy that I got some stuff accomplished at home, so no way for me to get outta work today...

Lost some trees in the last snow fall, so in the last 2 weeks, I Cut down all those trees, ran a 90ft culvert covered it with 30 quad axles of fill to builld into a berm and the last 2 days planted 20 x 10-12 ft trees, which was an @$$ busting adventure... Thank god I have all the toys for such a job - which saved me about $15K....
