I'd like to offer a recommendation against the honorary hip-hop track played often at these GTG's. Boom Boom Pow Dem Chickens Jockin' Mah Style.

Don't get me wrong, B.E.P has some of the highest paid engineer's in the game being a huge pop-entity. I think we could do better being 'in the know' and all. Besides nothing hurts ears more than Fergie' turn up her "down-south-bad-bitch-annoying-high-pitched-voice" impression (think Trina & Nikki Minaj). The lyrics are also nothing to speak for in terms of delivery, flow, content, rhyme patterns, etc.

Lots of Hip-Hop songs are poorly mastered, or the ones that were mastered amazingly (such as Dr. Dre's 2001) are too explicit. That said, as a 'fun' song, I recommend Outkast - Bomb's over Baghdad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVyVIsvQoaE

Some consider it a momentary lapse in André 3000 and Big Bo's "cool level" but its a fun great song. Outkast pokes fun at rap clichés and just had fun here. On a technical level, the mix is fantastic. Outkast has best-of-breed engineers in the ATL studio. The song has plenty ton of subtle sounds and staging effects especially midway through the song.

Andre 3000s lyric-delivery opens the song matching it's uptempo 155beat per minute track with equal ferocity and absolutely perfect timing. Most fabricated/untalented mainstream rappers purposely rhyme offbeat (such as any rapper with "Lil" in his name) because it allows them to bypass the technical challenge.

The drum pattern used on B.O.B is a faster and modern take of the classic Break Dancing beats. Inspired by Afrikka Bambatta and the Soul Sonic Force Planet Rock from '82.

Just my .02! Give it a try. The best way to test the merits of a speaker is to see how well rounded they are. I could post other recommendations if peopole want to choose one. Sometimes ya' gotta mix up the bag a bit.

I haven't gotten a time from Rick... Looks like it will be evening - just don't know what time he was going to be arriving.

Actually this isn't the CBT36 but a new design based on the same concept. The time is flexible for me but I had assumed 6-7pm for a starting time since everyone probably works till around 4-5pm? I can arrive late afternoon to set up.

Those Catalyst 12C's were definitely imposing. The question becomes when the 8CL's and 8ST's will come to fruition. Mark has several projects going on, including those, the new Sparks, The Terraform, The Terraform XL, and the Submersive XL.

How many years ago did the talk start regarding the Terraform and Terraform XL?

He started talking about the Terraforms back in 2010 I believe. The Submersive 2 dates back to 2007 I think. The 8CL was originally anticipated to be done in early 2011.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Seaton Submersive, but I have not had an opportunity to hear it yet. I am gaga over the Catalysts right now, and I would really like to hear what the Terraform XL and Submersive XL can do. I am sure the Submersive HP is quite a sub, but I don't want to run into upgraditus.

^ And it will remain that way. I think he's sick of certain inviduals (not you) on this forum, and has since decided to not bother with this place much anymore. I cannot blame him.

Onto a more important topic...

Fine folks of AVS,

A discovery was made yesterday when Dennis received back the pair of Philharmonic 2's that were sent to me for our Wisconsin GTG (Randy's pair). Dennis removed the bottom plate that covers the crossover and discovered that one of the midrange output wires had snapped; this would certainly explain the midrange problems I (we) heard with this pair of speakers. Apparently our Wisconsin GTG was meant for doom, as first we had a damaged pair of Phil 2's arrive (which we just discovered last night), and then we found out the left monoblock amplifier that we used to power every (left) speaker (except the Seaton's) had a bad transistor. What a disappointment...

Anyway, I have attached a picture that Dennis snapped immediately upon finding the snapped wire. I feel terrible about all of this and sincerely hope to hear another pair of Phil 2's or 3's as soon as possible. Although I didn't play a role in causing damage to the speaker, I feel it is necessary for everyone involved with the GTG to learn what Dennis found yesterday. Dennis did not ask me to post this, but you all deserve to know.

And now I will predict the future: that Jeff troll guy will post some sarcastic comment about how I am a Philharmonic fanboy, or claim I am working for Dennis or getting some sort of kickback from him, which is laughably untrue.

Just for the record, I did not listen or set-up the Phil 2's when I got home. Dennis wanted me to send them back right away but because I was going out of town, they didn't go out until Monday. Dennis received them yesterday afternoon. Bummer.

I think it is great that you guys found problems with speakers and the amp, because I would not want my speakers of this caliber to have distortion listening at 90 dBs or so. This just tells me all the speakers can sound better and especially the Phil's. Problems always occur at these things but the real problem is from forum members thinking these problems are excuses or something. I thought I read that someone thought they heard the Seatons even distorting and if this is the case there must be a huge null at the LP for this to happen.

I can't wait for you guys to hear the line arrays! I am making a line array myself but using cheap parts, you would be surprised how good they sound.

I am tempted to leave well enough alone, but not all of this is adding up yet. I intend to speak with Nuance this afternoon to try and figure out exactly what happened when. There is no question that there was shipping damage to the bottom corner nearest the snapped wire (you can see that in the photo). And that pretty much could not have happened on the trip from Randy's to my house, because Randy wrapped that particular box with a heavy layer of bubble wrap on the outside, and it was in perfect condition. And there's no question that the Phil's sounded like some of the descriptions from Wisconsin when I listened to them in their damaged condition. Heavy bass, thick and recressed midrange. Kind of foggy, which is exactly the kind of sound I hate. I played the one track that people seemed to have liked--the Copeland Fanfare--and it didn't sound too bad. But---------Nuance took measurements at his house, and they didn't show a recessed midrange. I'm not sure exactly how the measurements were done, and I'll pursue that with Nuance this afternoon. I remain puzzled, but in the future I will ask Fed Ex to route all of my Northern shipments around or over Wisconsin.
