Hi all,

I am new to this forum and also to this whole HT world. After some research, I decided to buy the Denon 1911 receiver. Now, I am looking for a nice 5.1 speaker set up. 1911 is going for about $370 on amazon. My budget for speakers is about $800. My room is about 20'x10' with an opening into kitchen on the left side while facing the TV.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I am leaning towards the Energy Take Classic 5.1.

I am open for any suggestions as long as the speakers set up falls with in $800 tops.

Thanks,
Srikanth

Must you have satellite speakers? If not I'd recommend some towers, bookshelf speakers or a combination of both.

Jamo s606 5.0 system, $399
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search

Emotiva sub10, $329
http://emotiva.com/ultra_sub10.shtm

You'd be much happier with this system than with little Energy satellites which won't do nearly as good a job filling up your 20' x 10' room.

Another option if you don't want cherry/dark apple colored speakers would be one the of the Jamo/Denon bundles and the same Emotiva subwoofer.

http://6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CESAVR1911JAMO

$626 including speakers and Denon 1911 receiver. Emotiva sub at $329 will bring total to $955 for speakers, sub and receiver which is a pretty good deal.

I agree. The Jamo system seems like a much better deal. I would not spend that much on a receiver for that size room for smaller speakers that are made more for a bedroom or smaller room.

To get you into the Jamo/Emo setup you may also consider saving some money by going with the Denon 591 since it is cheaper and offers almost the same features but it is not 7.1 it is 5.1??

Yep, the 591 is only a 5.1 receiver. I have one.

The 791/1911 has some added features such as more power, USB iPod input, 1080p upscaling/processing of analog sources, etc. The extra features may or may not matter to you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it. Also do you know what is the difference between the 606 and 426?

Thanks.

The 606 has larger woofers (8 inch) vs the 426 (5.25") and looks to have a better overall fit and finish. One can only assume the 606 may have slightly better components and would most likely sound better.

Great. In general how does Jamo sound? I am making this because I don't really have a way to get a demo any where near to me. The spec looks good. Also the sub you suggested is of a different make. Would that be a problem?

Jamo as a brand name is much more popular outside of the US, I have heard a few Jamo speakers over the years, but not the two you are considering. I thought they were good speakers and these seem to come recommended by folks who have bought them. For what you are paying, you seem to be getting a lot. I know for me I would take this Jamo 606 package anyday over a HTIB package with small satellite speakers for mains.

As far as matching speaker it is important to match your front 3 main speakers (left, right, center) for timbre matching. It is nice to match the surrounds as well. The subwoofer is not something you need to worry about matching and you can usually get much more bang for the buck by buying an Internet Direct subwoofer.

A different make sub is definitely not a problem. Buying a sub from a dedicated subwoofer company will give you more bang for the buck.

Jamo is neutral sounding to me. No emphasized treble/high frequencies like Polk and Klipsch seem to do. Just a good balanced speaker.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Do you have any other brands that I can actually take a demo? I trust the reviews here but I like to listen to the speakers before I pull the trigger. It's ok if the budget goes a little over to say $900 just for the speakers.

Thanks.

Also, what do you think about the Jamo sub here: http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...res/549114852/

I would not go with an 8" sub personally. If you look in the sub forum most people recommend the BIC F12 in the $180-200 price range. For slightly more people like the BIC PL-200 and the Premier Accoustics PA-120.

If you want to spend $300-420 you have lots more options. The F12 is probably a good starting point. Can usually find it for $180-185 shipped (have seen it lower from time to time).

Ok. After reading all the reviews and suggestions I am almost convinced with the Denon 1911 + Jamo S606 + BIC F12 set up. I will order those babies today. What kind of wiring. plugs do I need to set these up?

I am totally new to this and I am really excited to do this myself

Thanks!

Also do you have any good suggestions for stands for rear speakers? I don't like them on my wall.

You need speaker wire, banana plugs, subwoofer cable and probably a few HDMI cables. Without knowledge of your other devices, we don't know for sure.

What else are you connecting to this sysystem?

I buy all my cables at monoprice.com and am very happy with their performance.

14ga speaker wire
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

Banana Plugs, 1pr for each speaker and 1pr for each channel on the receiver. Highly recommend them for the receiver as it keeps things clean. Not as critical for the speakers but I like using them there too.

others like these Nakamichi plugs on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/24-100-Nakamichi...item518e78f24d

Subwoofer cable, get whatever length you need.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

HDMI cables
http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10240

Lots of HDMI to choose from, get whatever color, length, style you want.

Sanus makes good inexpensive stands anywhere from 24"-31" inches. So does Wood Technology as they go as tall as 35".

Check racksandstands.com or standsandmounts.com as well as amazon.com. You'll have to decide what's best for your budget and appearance,.

You cannot go wrong with Monprice. I do recommend spending a few dollars more and getting their higher rated HDMI cables.

I have never had an issue with Monoprice. Great service, fast shipping, great prices.

I just visited a local store and that was offering Atlantic technology 2200 system for $999. I got a demo and they sounded awesome. My only concern is they are an open box item that the store has had on display for about a year and a half and the system itself came out sometime in 2007. Do you think its worth the money?

They sold for around $2200 - it is your decision.

I wish a lot of people could here, Atlantic Technology systems.
Even with music - the sound will draw you in.

If they are not beat up - I would lean towards it.
Hard to find something for $1000, that can beat that sound.

I think you've got one too many zeroes there buddy!

from your link...

Well, they came very close with their System 2200. This package delivers an impressive experience, while ranging in price from $2,000-$2,600 depending on configuration.

I corrected my post.
It has been a rough month - thanks for looking out - you do good stuff.
I have owned Atlantic speakers, and they are serious sounding.

Hi guys I set up my first HT system ever yesterday and watched iron man 2. The entire set up was awesome!

The Jamos along with the Bic F12 rocked. Absolute delight!

Thanks for all your suggestions. I placed my entire order via amazon sold by http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/

I got my Jamo s606 HCS3 for $399 shipped and the BIC F12 for $168 shipped. The Denon 1911 was from Vanns for $399 shipped.

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice.

You guys rock.

I need to clean the mess from my set up. I will post some pics after that.

Thanks again.

Wow $168 for the f12? That's an amazing price. I have never seen the price go lower than $185 on amazon for that sub. Lucky you.

I thought Vanns was the only one who sold the S606 for that price. Did you get Dark Apple?
