This is a list of what I am looking at buying. I am open to suggestions/ better places to get this stuff so lets hear it my feelings will not be hurt.

3.1 system for now since I am in an apartment and don't want to deal with wires running all over the place and speaker stands.

1. Reciever Onkyo 609 =$494

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-NR609...3761548&sr=1-1

2. 2 of these BIC DV64 Tower Speaker = $272 for 2

http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-Ve.../dp/B00011KLOI

3. Center Channel BIC DV-62CLRS Center Speaker = $101

http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-DV.../dp/B00009WBYL

4. Either this sub BIC AMERICA F12 = $185

http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/..._id=%21ORDERID

OR

This sub
Bic Acoustech Series PL-200 = $329?

http://www.acousticsounddesign.com/c...pid=1555&sc=28

So $1052 Vs $1196 depending on the sub woofer.

Cables and speaker wire from monoprice. Lets hear your thoughts.

Thats a decent setup for the price. I saw the same Onkyo at ebay for around $450 bucks.

I think those choices are going to make for a very nice 3.1 system.

I also think that's a great setup,I've heard the center speaker and F12 and both are really good for the money.

I just like the fact that you're considering a good 3.1 system as opposed to the typical "budget 5.1/7.1" system for the same money. I think you'll be happier in the long run and it could be something you can build on. Solid suggestions above but plenty of good options out there so it doesn't hurt to keep looking. Take a look at the Pioneer/Best Buy FS51 + CP21 3.0 for $300, Denon 1911 for $400, and HSU STF-2 for $350. Good luck!

You can get the PL-200 for $280 if you call up AcousticSound Design if you call them

Any reason why you want the Onkyo 609? The Denon AVR-1911 can be gotten for a $100 cheaper and has better Audyssey

I don't mean to derail the OP too much, but I just had a quick question as I like the speakers mentioned by baseballz71. If I already have a 5.1 HTIB set up, would it be OK to uses these front and center speakers as replacements? In other words, these are designed specifically for a 3.1 system, are they?

I have looked at the Denon AVR-1911 and the only issue I have with it is their setup menu is extremely dated. Is manually configuring the sub on the Onkyo 609 with only 2EQ really that big of a deal?

The setup menu is dated?

All you have to do is plug in the audyssey mic and let it do its thing.

But if you want to compare apples to apples then compare the NR609 to the Denon 1912 which is just out now. At least then you will comparing new models with similar feature sets.
