I'm trying to compare the B&W CCM-682s vs CCM-683s.

Unfortunately the three places that carry them near me only have the 682s, which sound great. But I'd like to know if there is a clear improvement over the 683s, which seem to have very similar components and build with a slightly lower power rating. I am perfectly ok with less powerful speakers in this particular location, so if the 683s sound nearly as good as the 682s, I'd go with them. Anyone have any experience with this?

They should sound the same since they use the same components and have same dimensions. The only difference I see is the 682 handles 20 more watts. That wont make a difference unless you have a huge room, powerful amp and plan to crank it at high levels.

How much price difference is it?

I was thinking along the same lines that you are -- components are similar, with the major difference being a slight decrease in power handling.

Price difference is: 682 @ $599 vs 683 @ $424

So the savings is several hundred if you install 2 to 4 of them.

That's retail -- I hope to find a better deal somewhere. That's also why I'd like to be able to get the 683s without losing the sound quality. They're competitive with others -- Paradigm, Sonance, MartinLogan, Definitive -- at that price point.

Any other recommendations you might have???
