Greetings,

I am upgrading my existing HTIB to separate receiver and speakers. I'm pretty much set on getting either Onkyo tx-nr5008 or 3008 (not sure if for my space, 5008 adds any benefit). Can some one please suggest what will be best speaker set to go with it? Here are some more details on the setup -
- HDTV - Panny 55VT30
- Player - Oppo BD-93
- A/V rcvr - Onkyo nx5008 or nx3008
- Speakers - ?
The room is 14x16 ft roughly and mostly used for movies and only occasionally for music. What would you guys recommend? So far, I have considered Energy micro 5.1, Polk TL250, DefTech ProCinema 800, etc due to their small size. Floor standing take too much real estate else would have preferred them.

In any case, kindly suggest what would be best speakers with this setup. My range is under 2k, irrespective of number of speakers.

Thanks,
AW

My dad has this and it's just plain amazing in a room 3x the size of yours so it would definitely rock your room. I have the same sub, it's very musical and makes all movies sound huge! There are tons of reviews on the HB-1 mk2 speakers and the vtf 3 mk 3 sub and all are very positive. Good luck!

Ascend Acoustics CMT-340SE bookshelves and center and either CBM-170SE or HTM-200SE for surrounds (review), paired with a Hsu Research VTF-2.

Or Infinity Primus P363/PC351/P153 (towers/center/surrounds) and the same subwoofer. If you shop well they'll be just a bit cheaper than the ascends.

Both are really easy to drive.

I have the Onkyo TX-NR 5007, last years model without 3-D. It rocks. I paired it with a set of Aperion speakers and SVS sub. I really like the speakers, movies have so much more depth to them when I can watch 'em. I haven't heard the Verus Grand Towers, but I'm sure they sound excellent.

Intimus 6T's
Intimus 6C
Intimus 4BP's
SVS PC-13 Ultra

Here's what I have with my 5008. I love them.

Klipsch RF-83 towers with RC-64 center.

Any surrounds or are they in the front too?

After doing all (online) research, I'm leaning towards Ascend (CMT-340 SE front + CMT-340 SE center + CBM-170 SE rear), along with Hsu's VTF-3 MK-3 sub. In all, this would be around $1162.00 + 749.00, so $1911.00.
Huge S&H for Hsu is something I don't like though, particularly when Epik doesn't charges a penny for shipping.

Apologies........I didn't see your budget in the first post. My first Klipsches were the RF-82s shown in the pic with the RC-62. I also got the surrounds and a VTF-15H. Before the surrounds, I was within your stated budget.

I should have read more closely. My best recommendation is to audition as many as possible, and preferably in the same room, to be able to find what you like best. Then get your favorites that are within your budget.
