I removed one of the speaker grilles and I was correct. The latest models have the BMR further back into baffle.

Not sure if you can tell the difference between the front baffle from the attached photo. Here is the Min21 (left) and Min22 (right).

Pretty difficult to find any difference in that picture.

Actually, I can see the difference upon viewing the photo but here's a better one with the two side by side. Notice too, the front baffle difference from a top view.

It almost looks as though the 22's driver is just a bit smaller.

Here is the Minx grille redesign. Starting from the left Min20, Min21 & Min22 (I haven't seen it but most likely, the Min12 too).

Edit: Well, my photo is Posting sideways. So, it's top to bottom instead of left to right.

No, I double checked to be sure. All the drivers (BMR) look exactly the same in all series.

There is one discrepancy that I've seen with the Min12's specs. Cambridge Audio's Website show the speaker have a 150 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response. This is what I Posted on the first page. When I looked at the manual that came with the Min22 today, it states 120 Hz to 20 kHz, same as the Min22.

There is an interesting design of the BMR driver in a larger bookshelf type speaker by AVS member Dennis Murphy called the BMR Philharmonitor. Thread for it in AVS is here: Speaker review- the Phil-BMR, from Dennis Murphy with details of the speaker on Dennis website here: http://philharmonicaudio.com/BMR%20Philharmonitor.html

Wondering if Dennis will ever make a compact version to compete with CA Min22 speaker?

Edit: The 75 deg off axis curve looks incredible!

Hi,

Yes, I have been reading that thread - I wonder if Dennis brining out a BMR speaker was motivated by his reviewing of one of the CA Aero models?

Mr. Murphy is only using the BMR as a midrange. My fascination with the BMR is partly based on its more or less full range capability, eliminating the need for crossovers, as well as providing a single, coherent sound source.

I participated in the Aeromax thread for awhile, until the noise of all of those who adamantly maintained that there was no such thing as speaker break in got too loud for me.

Glad to see Perpendicular's back in BMR-land, and I'm really curious about his review of the Min 22s.

Long time, no Post!

I did not know there was a Aeromax Thread. I gave up on keeping the Aero Thread going from lack of interest. It's pretty sad too that there are only a handful of us left on this Thread but I know we've had lots of visitors and have helped a great deal of people even if they haven't Posted.

I'm glad I reverted back to the Minx. I did not realize how much I really missed their small footprint and the wonderful sound they make as a system. They are better in many key areas than any other dynamic based speaker I've owned. The midband is the area they really excel at. Now, if I could only sell my Emotiva Stealth speakers. They are taking up to much space sitting out in the garage in their original boxes.

I'll give you $10 for those Stealth's.

I highly doubt Dennis will make something to compete with the Minx, he seems to concentrate on "fuller" range speakers and I'm willing to bet the Philharmonitors are about the smallest he'll go. I really do want to get a pair of the BMR Phils though and yeah, that 75 degree off axis is...wow.

Everything that moves or is acted upon experiences break in. Materials flex and bend, and are subjected to heat and other forces, so it's pretty interesting that some people dogmatically claim these factors do not affect loudspeakers.

At any rate, it flies in the face of many users' experience, but these dogmatic naysayers claim that the perception of break in is psychological. This is a pretty general and unprovable hypothesis, and is high-handed as well. One can attribute psychological sensitivity and effects to any person, at any time. You could even say that some people on these forums are in a prolonged dream state.

Of course, I'm not saying that.

No. They're the 6's. After reading the Sound & Vision review comparing both models, I feel the 8's are overpriced.

Similar to the differences in digital sound quality that's been debated here on AVS.

My center channel speaker stand arrived today. I really like it. I was using one of my Orb Audio speaker stands which worked okay but the Cambridge Audio stand is much sturdier, better looking, even though it's in silver, and taller so I can place the Min2* vertically.

Maybe, unless you really really want those few extra Hz at the bottom.

I'm not seeing much of a difference according to the measurements from S&V.

I made sure I included it on purpose.

About an hour away from giving my impressions on the Min22. I need to warm up with some select tracks and the Min21 first.

I was listening to the Min21 and fell asleep for about 4 songs.

Just got done listening to the first song with the Min22. I picked a track I know well with a lot of sibilants on the lead vocals and it was Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That" from the MFSL album Private Eyes. The vocal was a little smoother but not enough where I Want to run out and purchase the Min22 over the Min21. Though, I did hear a bit more clarity. Next up, the Acoustic Labs DSD download of the first 6 tracks of The Alan Parsons Project "I Robot".

I want to remind everyone that I've been listening to these speakers at a higher crossover rate (200 Hz) than is normally used. I do this because of where my subwoofers (bass modules) are positioned, off the floor and really close to the satellite speakers. I do plan to play with a lower crossover rate of 150 Hz at some point.

Some more preliminary impressions after listening to more tracks. Yes, I'm hearing a smoother sound and clarity with the Min22. They sound more relaxed and seem to be presenting a deeper soundstage over the Min21. I'm hearing more dynamics too.

I'm going to give it more time and will report back some time in the next day. In the meantime, I'll be playing lots of music!

After 3 hours with the Min22 hooked up I reran room correction. Before I ran room correction and after I had listened to the Min21, it sounded like the Min22 wasn't as loud as the Min21. Sure enough, when I ran MCACC, it sounded like the Min22 was less efficient. During MCACC, it equalized the min21 to the Min22. These speakers will play well together as opposed to the Min20 and Min21.

The Min22 is definitely a bit smoother sounding speaker than the Min21 to my ears. The best way to describe the Min22 is like an audiophile speaker that sounds a bit more laid back and relaxed.

I figured the only way to get a good comparison is to A/B both Min21 & Min22.
