What are the best tower speakers I can get for about $200 per tower? I have been looking at the Polk Audio Monitor 70. Is there anything better for around the same price? Highest I can go at the moment is $250.

These will be used for movies, music and very little gaminig.

I think this pair of towers would be nice for your max budget shipped.

Between the M70 and these two, there isn't much left...

Honorable mention(cause if this really is a PAIR, it is a steal...)

Which of these would be the loudest and clearest? Reason why I am asking is if I were to host a house party I would want to be able to hear the sound throughout the house.

something with high efficiency with a horn tweeter. go with the bic or look at synergy series klipsch

You want it to basically "bump" right?

If I'm right, please check out Cerwin Vega.

you've been given some pretty nice choices. I'm intrigued by the eD A6t pair.

Also throw the Energy CF-70 into the mix. They should be comparable to the Polk M70 and have been selling for as little as $200 ea when on sale.

Something like Klipsch may be a good choice. Have you checked your local Craigslist to see what is available?

If you want the most efficient...the BIC PL76(from Overstock...how they sell them as a pair for $380, not sure) or something from the Klipsch Synergy line.

Everybody I know prefers the BIC Acoustech PL's over the Klipsch Synergy.

IMO yes the Infinity Primus P363. That a heck of a price on the current model and a heck of a speaker.

I don't know if there are any Paul's TV in your area, but they had a pair of these available in-store for $399.

Whether that price is still available, I don't know.

I love my Monitor 70's also. They sound amazing and won't break the bank. The BIC's that were mentioned also sound really good.

I stepped down from Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SEs ($3500.00/pr) to some Yamaha NS-555 towers...The Yamahas sound fantastic! I have taken them apart and they are built very well and sound even better! They are very good looking to boot!

Very helpful thread. I'm in the same boat as the OP. Leaning towards the Pl-89's from Acousticsounddesign.
