I'm trying to decide if I should keep my three Bic fh6-lcr, switch to three rbh R5bi's, or try out the aam bookshelves and center.

Do the aam carry a warranty of any sort?

This would be for strictly home theatre.

All of my speakers carry a two-year warranty, and I would probably honor any legitimate claim after that. Passive speakers are very reliable and usually don't break unless you do something dumb.

What do you not like about the FH6?

One thing that impressed me about the center was how well it handled male voices. Lots of weight to it.

Great setup. What speaker stands are those? They look nice.

They're just big. Also I hear sooo many excellent things about the aam and center. I'm close to going with them, but just found out I'm getting a tax refund this year so may look into the local ascend speakers.

Are the aam side specific, looks like the tweeter is oriented on different sides.

The tweeters are offset in mirror image fashion. That's considered best practice, but I'm not sure it makes much doo da difference. The cabinets come that way, so that's the way they are

Ascend is going to cost you more. That's for sure. The extra savings could go into a quality sub. Do you have a sub already?

I think I'm also leaning towards the AAM speakers. Just seems everyone loves them and are so accurate.

Hey all, I just wanted to pop in and say that I've been enjoying my Phil 3's since 2012 and can't believe it's been half a decade with them. I don't think I'd ever give them up unless I decided to order a new pair with a more interesting veneer or with the different cabinet shape.

I wouldn't hesitate to go with these, I haven't been around here for a while and didn't know Dennis was offering this caliber of speaker for the asking price with a reworked XO. There is nothing in this price range that can come close to the performance to price ratio of these speakers.

I don't know how Dennis keeps these in stock, $30 more than the PE kit, you'll spend that in glue gun and glue, solder iron and solder and other misc. things let alone your time to assemble them.
I'm using the stock BS 22s in a small TV room for my wife and am amazed with their sound, I can only imagine how good the AAMs sound and 16 pounds per speaker with 6.5" driver....

I would get six of these and use one as a center and one as a single channel rear speaker in a HT setup, put the savings towards a couple new subs. Usable output down to 34 Hz is astonishing. Good luck with whatever you decide.....

Cheers Jeffrey

Thanks for the report. Frankly, if I could figure out a way to make the 3's faster and perhaps with a little higher SAF, I would devote full time to them. They're still the best speaker I know how to design.

Curious to hear how they sound with the FW compared to the Odyssey amps. Both are amps I'd love to own someday.

I have some BMR's on the way at the end of the month, does anyone have recommendations for stands? Sanus seems to have one stand but even then the BMR's are technically too heavy for them.

these should work well. I have the AAM on 28in stands and I think with the bmr having them on 19in stands would be a good height with the top of the speakers being 41inches high.

Pangaea ds400 on Amazon.com I just ordered a warehouse deals pair. For heavy bookshelves they recommend you fill them with sand or lead balls to make the bottom heavy to offset the topheaviness of big bookshelves

I've taken a couple of orders for them, but I'm so backed up with BMR orders in the Parts Express cabinets that I'm not promoting anything else right now. The BMR's are a bear to build. Good thing I just found some competent help.

Is that the curved PE box, or the square box like the ones I own? I know you said they had some challenges, in fact, if you hold you ear up to them with no input, you can hear Dennis mutter, under his breath, some words not best spoken at church!

PE is only making curved-sided ones now. Pretty on the outside. Inside, not so much. I think you can imagine what it's like fitting and securing a very complex 3-way crossover in there. There's a heavy longitudinal shelf brace half way down that blocks access to the bottom of the cabinet. And screwing it down tight requires skills and tools I don't have. But the new guy does, and the last ones we shipped were perfect.

I found out about Dennis' work at Philharmonic when looking through old posts on this forum to read up about the Andrew Jones designed Pioneer FS52 floorstanders. Reviews on Amazon were raving about how good they were for the price, but I've been burnt by some decidedly poor Amazon groupthink before when it comes to audio equipment, and knew AVS would be a better source of knowledge. Reading these old threads quickly told me that Dennis was able to modify these speakers into something even better, and now a few years later it appears his current Affordable product is even better. As much as I love the design of a good floorstander, the Andrew Jones' are now a distant memory for me. I left my simple and unspectacular AV system back home 5,000 miles away and I thought choosing new speakers to replace the variety I used to run (Mission M73 on various Onkyo, Denon, and Yamaha AV amps, and a slew of Mordant Short MS20/HT30s through more vintage Technics and Sansui 2ch amps) was going to be painful task. Suddenly, I don't think it will be. The fact that a lot of people with some truly expensive and impressive setups can listen to a pair of his $200 speakers and only speak wonderful things about them says a lot.

But without even hearing the sounds of the speakers, reading the last 20 pages of this thread or so have shown me something possibly more important. Dennis comes across as a true gent in the hifi world - one that's consistently full of dubious marketing and inflated costs designed to separate someone from their money. The amount of times I've seen him say he simply wouldn't create a product because he felt the sound quality wouldn't reflect the extra cost builds so much trust - leaving no doubt that if his $200 speakers are as good as people say, then his $2,000 speakers are absolutely worth that extra investment. I can't wait to get settled into my new home and build up my gear again, and look forward to making my first purchase from Philharmonic. Let's hope there's not too much of a backlog at that point!

I can only say that, from my perspective, Dennis is an upright person to deal with. In my opinion, yes I know we all have them, his speakers are worth every penny. And yes, the AAMs are amazing. I now have the AAMs on a bedroom system. I am very happy with my complete Philharmonic speaker system. Phil 3, mtm center, New Philharmonitor surrounds, Marantz AVR, Oppo player. His speakers are smooth, accurate, can play loud without sounding strained, to my ears they do not over emphasize any frequency, they are very "musical". I find that they make me stop, sit down and listen to music. Sometimes the same track two and three times, in amazement. I think you will enjoy them when you get there. Cheers.
