Afaik, the specs are not even published yet. I think this question may be a bit premature.

Although they appear to be very similar in design to the CHT's, it's hard to speculate since woofer/cd/horn selections and crossover design/port/cabinet design will determine SQ. It appears they may be using a 12" woofer which may mean they're shooting for extension to perhaps 60 Hz, which is a good design choice IMO.

I will certainly be looking forward to hearing reports from early adopters.

If I can't get any eD people to make it to my Sub GTG in October (if they can, I'll plead for a trio of the new Cinema speakers), I am probably going to purchase 3 by early winter to compare to my SHO-10s.

Their price point is in the ballpark of the CHTs (12" higher, 6" lower).
The early adopter price will be very tempting for those interested.
Otherwise, we don't know much other than what the drivers are and the rough dimensions.
No crossover info as of yet so I'm waiting to learn more. (buying might depend on that)

I'm interested in this comparison and to see what the ED speakers are capable of. However, I'm always reading about quality issues with ED, which is a concern. Hopefully they work things out.

Herd? Are we now "herding" speakers?

Fone? I assume you mean phone

alot? that would be a lot

plp? what is a plp? I know what a pdp is but a plp? Never "herd" of that

GSDTrainer, maybe you are a little older and not part of the generation that is texting / tweeting all day. They have created a new language that takes of less characters. Its purely short form and not that hard to figure out.

This is an audio forum not a proper english class....honestly, English class has been out for 5+ years now, no one really cares any more!! Welcome to the new world

Don't waste your energy. There are always people like that in forums. I feel really sorry for ESL folks sometimes.

You've got a good topic going. The eD Cinema series looks interesting and the target price seems reasonable. Derailing the thread over grammar and bravado isn't worth it.

If you're sitting at a keyboard, how hard is it to type the whole word?

I have to say, typing the whole word and generally attempting to communicate clearly shows that you respect the community here enough to try to have an adult conversation.

Personally, I think that kind of writing shows that the writer doesn't respect the people or the forum. If you don't put the effort in, why should anyone else put the effort in to help?

(I'm not talking about the occasional misspelled word or grammar slip, I'm talking about the fact that we as community don't seem to be worth the effort for someone to spell 'people' rather than 'plp'.)

Just my own view.

Brooklyn attitudes aside...

I think the CHT and the eD Cinemas are kind of in the same league, but maybe not in the same ballpark... The eD has a 12" driver with what looks like way more port area, meaning lots more bass extension. The waveguide on the tweeter also looks like it has a much wider angle horizontally, meaning less directivity... They are also HUGE compared to the CHTs...

That said... I think the eD's look pretty interesting.

Frankie, my understanding is that CHT is going with a new manufacturer for their cabinets which will now be made with MDF instead of plywood. Further the speaker itself, will be significantly redesigned with a different type of horn while allegedly keeping the same model designations. This will happen later in the year. To say that the existing line was manufactured well would an act of kindness sufficient to be nominated for a humanitarian award.

If you're hell bent on buying their existing products, I'd wait until the time for the revised models gets closer when they'll reduce the prices to clear out their inventory. Otherwise you'll have to wait until the new revisions have been around for a while to gauge user feedback. The thing is Frankie, it'll be up to you to judge how reliable user feedback on any product is. A lot of times, it's like being in a nursery ward where every parent says how their baby is the most beautiful.

New OEM building CHT's enclosures: http://jandfwoodproducts.com/

Looks like they've built cabinets for MK, Infinity, JBL and they seem to show a lot of Klipsch products?

They're also moving the SHO to a 90x60 waveguide (from 60x40, HM17-25). My guess is the HM25-25 as it's been paired with the D220ti successfully (Bob Crites' speakers for example):

It will be interesting to see the specs on the new eD speakers. I think they have the potential to address what I saw as shortcomings in the CHT speakers, the narrow horizontal dispersion of the horn and the high roll off of the bass driver. I read that they are redesigning their speakers to include a broader dispersion horn, but I believe the bass driver is the same. While spec-ed to 72Hz +/- 3db I read that several people had Audyssey set their Sho/Pro crossover at 100 to 120 hz. I found this unusual, as most people comment that Audyssey sets their speakers to large, and that they go back and change it to small and set the crossover themselves. The 12 inch eD driver will most likely extend deeper, and not have this issue.

Technically, that particular company hasn't built any cabinets for M&K and probably not the others. My understanding though is that they do good work.

That was my feeling after looking around the site. Hopefully the cabinet building is a few notches higher than their previous OEM.

Sounds like CHT is evolving, that is a good thing. Their pricing looks to be very competitive for what you are getting.

Really liking what eD is putting together as well (I have owned one of their subs now for years with no issues). Any word on price for the eD speakers? I am expecting them to cost considerably more than the CHT.
