I am looking to build a decent home theater system on a budget and I could use your advice to chose the right components. I posted a similar thread in the "AV Receivers" section of the forum, but naturally the discussion there is focusing more on the receiver side. I am posting here, because I would like to get some ideas about the speakers I should chose.
First of all I mentioned I am on a budget, and my budget is currently around $1000. About half of that would be spend on a receiver so that leaves me with a total of $500-$600 for the speakers. I know this is not a lot for a good 5.1 system, but it is a start. I am also willing to look for refurbished, used or discontinued products so that I can get the best bang for the buck. In other words I have about $500-$600 to spend, but I am actually looking for components in the $600-$1200 MSRP range.
I live in a condo and I don't have much space for floor standing speakers, so I'd prefer to go for the bookshelf style ones. Due the layout of the living room and to simplify the wiring/installation I would prefer to stick to a 5.1 system. The size of the living room is approximately 18' L x 12.5' W for a total area of ~225 sq. ft.
Last, but not least I haven't decided 100% on a receiver yet, but it will most likely be the Onkyo tx-nr709 or similar - just to give you an idea about the power requirements.
So what should I get?
