hello all,

I am a newbie here. I just bought a VSX-1021K last week. I need some help in choosing a good/decent speakers for my system with $400 to $500 budget.

I went through few forums here as found experts will be asking for details to give their best opinion so i am posting the room dimensions. My game room size( i am converting my game room to home theater) is 13 feet X20 feet. The projector screen will be on 13 feet wall. the other 13 feet side is half open and rest of 20 feet walls do not have any doors. I am interested in 7.1 speaker system.

Please help me find some good speakers. I saw few in best buy/Frys. They look great but very cheap like $200-$250 for all 7 speakers

vsx-1021 specs says power is 90 for each channel. does it mean i should be looking for max of 90 Watt speakers?

You don't choose speakers because you got a deal on an AVR. You don't buy speakers based on some strange stat about "watts" based on the specs of your AVR or speakers when you don't understand the spec to begin with. You want your speakers to be a main part of your purchase, they're very important in the experience, whereas your AVR only means so much. Can you raise your budget? Lower your expectations? Work with 2.0 for now, maybe 2.1...maybe?

Is it too free to control?" - Don Van Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart) discussing commercial success in the music biz

Since your budget is very lean, start with a pair of Polk Monitor60s @ $100 each (promo code EMCJHJA48), a CS2 center, and a pair of Monitor30s: $470. Then save up $200 to $300 for a sub and buy it later.

+1

$250 for quality speakers is next to impossible for that size room

One $450 option is the Jamo s606 hcs3 5.0 speaker set just add a subwoofer down the line

Why not go with the Pioneer SP-PK51FS speaker package to go with that new receiver.

Just my 2¢ - take it or leave it for others

I noticed that Newegg has the Monitor 70 for $150 each and the CS2 for $100 after coupon codes.
