Hey guys,

I just bought 2 energy RC-70s with the Onkyo TX-NR809. I was wondering what speaker wire I should buy and if it makes a difference?

I am a complete newbie when it comes to speakers, this is my first sound system. I am a tech guy so i can learn quick. is there any difference in the wires you gave?

Do I need to buy banana plugs? If so what, what do you recommend?

NO you don't need banana plugs nor do they offer any discernable or audible advantage but they DO make for quick & easier connection to your avr's speakers terminals or speakers binding posts(if so equipped) over bare wire...I like using them.

One can be used for in-wall installation and the other cannot. They are both the same gauge though and your speakers will sound the same with either one.

Personally, I'd get the 12 gauge speaker wire (in-wall rated or not) rather than the 14 gauge just for a good, average cable thickness for most all around system designs.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

Banana Plugs are convenient and the terminated end's corrosion is slowed dramatically.

Guys Im a newbie,

What gauge of wire do you recommend and why?

Could you also show me which banana plugs to buy as well?

My wire will be outside no inside wall installation. (I have amazon prime to note, so if its there instead of monoprice even better)

Just read the manual,

Energy recommends high quality 12 gauge AWG cables and spade lugs.

What 12 gauge (outside) and spade lugs should I get for this receiver?

If you really want 12ga then get it from Monoprice. 14ga is probably fine though.

I have 10 Energy speakers and only use banana plugs and 14ga wire.

You can actually use bare wire if you really want.

Here are 8 lugs for $23.95 on Amazon if you insist on spades, 4 red and 4 black. 2 pair for the speakers and 2 pair for the receiver terminals.

Read this article while you're at it.

I went with 12 AWG and 8 Closed screw banana plugs, seemed a lot simpler and efficient from monoprice. I cant wait to set all this up!
