With a sub, I can't imagine the difference is that noticeable. The bigger woofers will offer better dynamics, and would be more appropriate for a larger space. You may as well get the 70s so there is no buyers remorse tongue.gif

The 60's are still $100 @ Newegg but the 70's went back up to $200.

i bought the 70's.  $300 shipped was too good of a deal to pass up.  im happy with them, they sound great.  i dont think i gained much over the 60's though to be honest.  if you dont have a sub, 70's for sure, they put out more bass.  the towers are huge!

I'm about to pull the trigger on a pair of 70s for $300 shipped and a CS2 for $100 shipped at NE to replace a 20-year-old, modest Pioneer front 3. Would it be insane to also grab a pair of 60s for $200 shipped to use as rear channels (to replace a pair of Wharfedale bookshelves currently being used as rears)? Thanks!

i think polk recommends using the m40's as rears for the m70's.  with that said, if you were to buy the m40's and stands, you would be just about at the cost of the m60's.  i say go for it.

A lot of people use the 60's as rear channels. As said above, by the time you buy stands for the bookshelfs, you've spent more money and haven't gained anything.

Thanks guys. Does it matter that the 70s and 60s don't technically match? I'm driving all of this with an Onkyo 818, so the speaker setup should fix any imbalance, no?

They're both in the monitor line so they match just fine. Also, the 60's are pretty much the same as the 40's except the 60's have an addition 5.25 driver in them so you'll get better bass. Honestly, and we're talking about for the rears, if the 40's were cheaper with stands you could go with them and be happy, but those darn 60's are just real hard to pass up.

Extremely tempted to pull the trigger...

2x70s = $300
1xCS2 = $100
2x60s = $200

Shouldn't have any trouble driving that setup with an Onkyo 818, right?

At some point I'll add a sub (or 2, the room is wired for two on opposite corners), but I want to wait until I can afford the real things, and the 70s should have enough bass to hold me over for now.

my bic f-12 sounds great paired with the m70's.  they totally compliment each other, imo.  quick google search shows the onkyo puts out 135 wpc.  should have plenty of power.  my denon puts out 120wpc and is plenty loud.
