Are there any headphones that are able to pull audio off hdmi. What I want is something I can use in my HT for all my devices (ps3,xbox,satellite, etc). I am looking for something that would be installed between the hdmi out on thereceiver and my projector. It seems like
Most gaming headphones are designed to work with one device at a time. Any recommendations?

Are all these devices attached to your receiver?

Could you just plug a normal set of headphones into a line-out or headphone
jack on the receiver? If so, the sound your receiver produces at its speakers,
regardless of the source, will be sent to the headphones.

Or maybe I misunderstand the question.

A "y"-cable with multiple male connectors (one for each of your devices) and
a single female connector (for your headphones)?

Not that I know of... Most surround headphones pull audio from optical cables so get an optical splitter and you're golden

There are some HDMI DACs out there that will pull two channel from the HDMI signal for headphone output, but these are expensive and unnecessary for your situation.

If your receiver has a headphone out, use that, otherwise I would buy a headphone amplifier (even an inexpensive one, look at the FiiO E9 on Amazon) and attach it to a loop or line level output on your receiver.

If your receiver does not have a loop output or line level output, then things might get more difficult, and your best bet at that point is to use optical or coax digital out into a DAC with a headphone output.

If you game often, then something like the Astro Mixamp connected via coax or optical from your receiver would be your best bet. The MixAmp has Dolby surround via Dolby Headphone, which works really well for surround gaming using headphones.

Also, do not bother with the so-called 5.1 or 7.1 headsets; those are a gimmick.

I am looking for surround headphones so just using the headphone jack wont work. I suppose I could use an optical splitter, but I'm currently running hdmi on everything so that would mean buying more cables and a splitter plus more cable clutter. I'm just surprised turtle beach or axiom haven't come out with headphones that pull audio off the hdmi out of your receiver and just pass through the video.

Well the thing is the primary users of the surround headphones are gamers so they want to use their HDMI cable from the game system to output video to their display and PVR, and then they run another cable to the their headphone mixer from the optical port on their system.

For the wireless option I was looking at the Astro A40's though they come at a premium for price
