The strange thing about this whole deal was I had my wife sitting next to me for a few songs. We would listen to a song then I would switch the speakers back to the polks and listen to another song. Without telling her what I thought I asked her what she thought. Initially she did not know what speakers were what but she quickly caught on.

Her thoughts.

Polks bright and in your face. Unpleasant with volume. Highs sounded precise but somewhat overbearing. Somewhat bassey and kind of muddy.

Emp Tek smooth and laid back. Amy Lee's voice sounded much much better on the Emp Tek. Bass seemed tighter and precise.

Basically after the first song her blind unbiased test was done. She listened to a few more and now knew what to listen for to know what speaker was what.

She loves the looks of the new speakers and wanted to know when I will get the polks out of here. Right now the polks are on the local craigslist and I have 3 people interested. If they do not sell I am going to keep them in the living room until at least this weekend so I can do some more switching and comparing.

Other than the center channel working and seeming much louder than the polk I have not had any time with it to really give feedback.

Are those graphs saying that the real response is 55-20KHz?

It appears that they have a bass roll off at about 60Hz and a high end roll off at around 20KHz.

I'd say so. Chart generally is pretty flat after about 55hz though. (Which is good)

The bass is tuned somewhere around 55hz - when you get around
the 300hz region, there is the floor/room bounce. The speakers are
voiced to play loud - they did not EQ the bass down. And the treble
response overall, looks nice.

These things happen, when you are use to one type of sound - it takes time.

Good deal. I cannot wait to get home today and listen to mine some more.

I hope the bookshelves come back in stock on the 20th so I can pick up a pair for surrounds. Looks like this has turned into a great budget system.

I wonder if I should cut my review from here and move it to the official emp tek owners thread? I might do that once I evaluate the speakers some more.

I'd put it in both. It's certainly pertinent to this thread as well.

any recommendations on a receiver to run these E55ti's as well as center and rears? i'm mind boggled over all the threads i read in the receiver threads over the last few days. my budget on the receiver is $500 or so....greatly appreciate any suggestions. just don't want to buy the wrong receiver. i do have a 3d tv as well as a 3d bluray but i'm not sure if the receiver needs to be 3d ready?

Hahah hell ya, also Im really loving the sound out of these things with my reiciver EQ. I put the itunes eq on flat, thus managing with the AX-497; sound is so much better. If you crank these things up sometimes I just turn the EQ off, thats when these speakers really shine.

So glad to hear they kick the monitor70s butts... : P!!!

Onkyo 709.

Has a decent internal amp. Has pre amp outputs for when you decide to feed the speakers some real power. 3d capable. Audyssey for all channels AND the sub. You should be able to find it for about $500.

I am very happy with mine.

Yeah I have been running no eq since I got them. I am going to run audyssey after my rear surrounds arrive. I listened to them some more last night but did not swap over to the polks. I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Last night I brought the sub back into the mix. Towers running full range and sub crossed over at 80. It blends so well.

I would get THIS receiver, I am also a firm believer in timbre matching the 3 front channels so I would go with one of THESE CC from EMP. For rears you have many options, do you want book shelve speakers or bi/di-pole SS speakers? And yes the receiver NEEDS to be 3D ready unless you hook the source directly up to the TV.

I would actually not get the Denon 1912 for $499 and look at getting the 2112 for less than that (call Electronics Expo and they will sell it for around the $450 range). Search on that if you have any questions on how its possible. Better receiver...

Wow I did not know that! Guess I wont recommend the 1912 for that price any more! Thanks for correcting me. And yes EE is great when it comes to calling them and I believe if you mention AVS it helps too.
