Hey all. My father is in the market for a 2 channel bookshelf setup for purely music. He's already got a very nice sub (JL). Used or new give us some suggestions within a 5,000 budget for a pair of bookshelves, either used or new. I gave him some recommendations, but he doesn't like what I like. Hoping to hear from all of you.

Thanks!

If you can find a Dynaudio dealer you could have him check out this,
http://www.dedicatedaudio.com/inc/sdetail/27461

this is another Dynaudio that is really nice,
http://www.dedicatedaudio.com/inc/sdetail/25569/18198

you might even find the C1 MKI, and you can probably get that into your fathers budget.

Dynaudio Focus 260s, Focus 210C, DM 2/6, Hsu VTF2 MK4, Oppo BDP-103,
Naim Nait XS-2, Jolida FX Tube DAC, Integra DTR-40.2, 55" Panasonic Plasma

Personal favorite: Sonus Faber Auditor M
Might be a bit over at $5500 retail (plus stands...)

B&W 805d's are a reasonable and popular speaker

Try audiogon or even ebay, I think there's a pair of dynaudio s1.4's for about 2.3k on ebay. A lot of good choices when buying new/demo rather than new.

I second the Vapors or Philharmonics. Both are excellent.

Give the Salk M7 monitor a look.

Selah Tempesta, Circondare or Cima all probably deserve a look as well.

Happy hunting.

If I had that much money for bookshelf speakers, I would check out the Klipsch Palladium bookshelf speakers.
