Hi,
I'm looking to get a pair of floor standing speakers to go with the Denon 2311 for the living room.
My brother swear on the bose 901. I like the JBL L890.
I currently have the JBL L880 hooked up to a Denon 2308ci in my bedroom.
Which of the 2 would you buy? Are there better speakers in term of look and performance in the same price range?

Thanks,
Tin

Psb, nht, paradigm. Martin Logan motion 12s are going for a song.

Any of these are far better than what you're looking at currently

Sticking to your original query, I'd steer you toward the JBL L890. Nothing others have suggested will beat them.

Within the JBL family, there seems to be a lot of positive feedback by recent purchasers of the JBL Studio line, including the 190 and 180 models, which have been available for quite a bit under your budget.

Check the Official JBL Thread for first-person testimonials.

you can start here:

It goes on for a few pages, but if you persevere, you'll find a number of ecstatic owners.

A lot of the advice you've gotten is pretty good. Dump the thought of getting Bose. They are overpriced junk.

Why, you sir, are always correct
To OP, you're the one who have access to both the Bose and the JBL, no? If so then just bring them together, see which one you like more. But general consensus I've heard around here is that they are two different classes. Actually, only one class - only the JBL has class

How do you figure the Bose 901 is a FLOOR STANDING speaker? It's very form factor does not meet your needs-And I won't go into the rest---------

JBL: Probably some of the best manufacturing/testing of any loudspeaker company. Not to mention Floyd Toole & the rest of Harmon's R&D power.

Bose: Better sound through "marketing" in my opinion. I like the sound of Bose in a car. My old Maxima sounded pretty good but i would never ever have a Bose speaker in my house. There are many good explanations of why Bose is not good available online. With the stroke of a pen they could probably build the worlds best system but why would they? As long as people keep lining up to see a losing team why would owners/management spend more on better players?

Alrght. I've decided to reduce my speaker budget to $500/pair because I've already spent $479 on a karaoke mixer, $249 on a wireless microphone system and $650 on a karaoke player. Right now, newegg has the Polk Audio Monitor70 Series II for $400/pair and Amazon has the JBL Studio 180 for about the same price. Has anyone have any experience with these two models? I wish I could have a listen to them before the purchase. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Tin

These are on sale for $397.50/pr. And the people who had Monitor 70's say the EMP Tek's blow them away. And they look way better too, especially the red burl color.

Sorry, $397.50/pr for the E55Ti.

The smaller E5Ti towers are $275/pr. Maybe they'll fit if the big towers dont.

As far as sound, I've never heard them. You'll have read the thread I linked earlier. But one comment I saw said they were better than Monitor 70's.

DO NOT LISTEN TO SPEAKERS THROUGH YOUTUBE!!!!!!

When you do that you are listening to the mic they used on the camera to record the video and then that audio is further compressed and degraded by youtube putting it on the web

If you want to listen to speakers listen to them in person and if possible listen to them in your room.

If you like the JBL's why don't you just stay with them

I was just going to say ...what the heck does listening to a video on YouTube do for you?

You're listening on your computer speakers so how will that tell you anything?

I'm not really a fan of the Polk Monitor series. Too bright sounding for me. But I do recommend them to others because people want a decent setup for cheap. And if home theater is your main purpose they'll be fine.

But I wouldn't use the Monitor series for music. I'm more partial to Energy RC and Jamo speakers. I do like the Polk Rti and LSi speakers though but they cost quite a bit more than the Monitor series.

Just my opinion.

They have some experienced people working for them. There must be
a reason why they are still here today.

Engineered Music Products (EMP) was founded in 2007 by industry professionals with over thirty years experience in designing, engineering and manufacturing high-performance loudspeakers for companies such as ParaSound, McIntosh, JBL, RBH Sound, Destination Audio and Fosgate. The high-performance loudspeakers designed by EMP differ greatly from the products sold in mass retail and big box stores.

EMPtek is a sister company to RBH Sound which has been around since 1976 and is pretty well known in the audio industry. They share the same facilities and even have the same address.
