These speakers are very good and less than $130 for the pair.these would be especially good if u don't have a seperate subwoofer since these have 8" bass units but they are nice either way.

I have seen those for $100/pair but I DO have a separate sub so I don't know that an 8" bookshelf would be necessary.

Ok, to sum up what I have read here;

- The Dayton Audio would actually work with my setup and good be a good value/budget choice.

- Pioneer bookshelves now have 2 endorsements. Would this apply to the SP-BS21 that I can get for $70??

FYI;
Vanns 'deal-of-the-day' has the Klipsch VB15 Icon for $130...

I vote for Polk Monitors from Newegg. If you don't need them right away, wait for them to go on sale. M30s will go down to $80 a pair, M40s will go down to $120 a pair, CS10 ~$65/$70 or CS20 ~$100-$110. I think they're the best value and have excellent sound quality.

Join Newegg's mailing list to get promo codes. They literally put some Polk Monitor speakers on sale every week. You wouldn't have to wait long to get a better price on the M40s or M30s.

And the Polks would be better than the Andrew Jones Pioneers??

I bought a pair of Polk Monitor 30's and a CS1 center channel yesterday. That would be my vote. Polks.

To my ear the Pioneers sounded awful. But YMMV.

My preference is still for the Pioneer C21 placed vertical - however, if
you go with Polk - then step it up to the Polk RTi4 speaker.

How many of these speakers have you actually listened to? I know, your budget is hardly worth the trouble, but are you going to be happy with a choice purely on recommendation of others?

Good call. Best Buy carries the Monitor30/40 and Pioneers. I should just go give them a listen.

I suppose I was more interested in other possible choices that I had failed to consider.

For speakers, it is never black and white and everyone has preferences. I know from past experience, I don't really like Polks. They sound flat (some might say neutral). I don't have any experience with any Pioneer speakers though.

Truth be told I much prefer Infinity but there aren't any in this price range for me to buy.

Crutchfield has the Infinity Primus P152 for $149.98 a pair on sale.

If going to Best Buy check for a Magnolia location. Otherwise you're probably better off NOT hearing them

I just sold a pair of Polk RTi6 that were surprisingly good (I wasn't a fan either before I had these) for their size, my space and the music I most often listen to.

JBL Studio 130's - they're often on sale for about $130/pair @ wwstereo.com. You can call them up and ask for the sale price.
If you already have a sub then these will work great. Tweeter and mid range clarity is where these shine.

The HLS 610 is my choice.
JBL did a good job with that speaker - it is nice, and it sounds good.

With the grill off.

I went to BB to listen to the Pioneers and others and ended up just buying the Pioneers on the spot. They are very good for the money. I like them a lot. I was able to demo them alongside Energy CB5's and Polk tsi100's and for half the price of either, they certainly held their own. Not flat like the Polks and almost to the level of the twice as much Energys.

BB has a 30-day return policy so I will continue to see if any crazy deals come along. If not, I am happy with my choice. They are so good they would even work well in a 2.0 setup as well. With my Infinity TSS-SUB450, it is great for my needs and usage.

Thanks for the help.

What old JBL's and what went wrong with them? Some are very much worth fixing.

Still looking from Feb? I sure hope not but those $20 JBLs sounds too good to be true. It's got to be a misprint.

Great deal but good luck finding some of the JBL's. just checked online and none of the 17 California stores have them.
