Ive got a panasonic plasma 65gt30 and bose cinemate gs2 but i cant seem to get to get this thing working. I dont have an optical cable so im using rca cables now. Turned the tv speakers off and powered on the bose but cant seem to get sound out of them. Do i need the optical cable to get sound or is there a step im missing?

Well, the obvious answer you will get from 90% of the forum is to trade in your Bose and get a real sound system.

But to really answer your question, are you sure you have the RCA audio cable connected to the AUDIO OUT on the TV? I've heard of some people just plugging it into any old red/white connection they can find, and it turns out they have it connected to an AUDIO IN connection. Or if you are using a cable/satellite box, you could just go straight from that box to the Bose.

Optical is preferred though. Much better sound quality. I would recommend going on monoprice and buying a couple. They're like 2 bucks a piece or something crazy if I remember correctly.

With a quick look at specs of the TV... your TV doesn't have analog audio "outputs" (red/white). So, it looks as if Toslink (optical) is your only option.

Well, RCA (red/white) cables aren't capable of carrying a Dolby Digital signal. Are there any other options for audio on your cable box? Just trying to get what you have to work until you can track down an optical cable....

Do mean that you have a "cable box" with analog audio outputs that you connected directly from the cable box to the Bose? If so, that should work.

+1. My idiot cable company uses a converter that supplies an HDMI to the TV but with no audio. I had to run analog audio outs on the converter to my receiver, then set the receiver for analog input signal.

Can we eliminate the typical Bose comments and assist the OP?
It's tough enough to try to get specific info to assist as best as possible without having dodge the Bose bashing BS posts.

hmmm... why do people who HAVE bose keep asking about how to improve their sound? Or how to integrate individual components into their other systems (short answer is they can't. and really wouldn't want to.) ? When those ?s stop...
My response wasn't a flat out bash... but the OP could absolutely do better for the $, if that's an option. I could bash... but a simple google search would do.
Whenever I'm in WorstBuy, which isn't often, granted, I make a point of checking out the "latest and greatest" ... ie. the most expensive... speakers they have on display. It is almost always a Bose set. I don't have Magnolia... I just ask to see which Bose model is THX certified. Um.... dead silence every time. There isn't one. Then ask yourself why.

...what a long, strange trip its been.

Hmmm....THX is also an independent company and Bose is in no mood to pay a standalone company for certification to their QA standards. THX is for people who do not want to use their own ear to decide what they hear.

really... go ask about their receivers, and if the THX sticker on the more expensive models is really a benefit, and you'll hear (if they know) about how home audio component manufacturers have to submit, for REAL testing... in order to achieve THX certification. Bose won't cut it. Period. And they know it. And they employ more lawyers then audio engineers. and a bigger marketing budget than the next 20 speaker companies combined. And they sued Consumer Reports over a bad review. And they have lawyers ready to contact me for defamation and slander right now...
Bose bashing will stop when they
1. make a better product
2. charge a reasonable price for their existing products
3. stop trying to fleece the average consumer through 'better marketing'
And until then... let it fly.

...what a long, strange trip its been.

I was going to tell him to just open his trash can lid and set them inside but figured he had enough comments.

In all honesty though it is those comments that help add insight to someone that they can do better, or it might not be what they're looking for and in a forgiving not so serious way.

And now... let's try to "attempt" to assist the OP (without the childish rebuttles).
He already bought the Cinemate system. Done deal.
Now all we need is a tad more info in regard to whether there's a cable box involved.

We have determined is won't work directly from the TV since it doesn't have analog audio outputs. The optical cable is on order... so, patience may be a virtue.

So, to circle around, assuming there is a cable box, the analog audio outputs should work (as inquired previously).

HA HA HA HA

Dear OP, if you haven't already gotten fed up....

Your panasonic TV can output sound through optical only. There is a part that Panasonic supplies that plugs into the optical port on the side of the TV. After that, an optical cable can be plugged into this adapter that I am talking about. You need both parts to plug into your GS2.

AVR: Marantz 7008 Phono: Pro-Ject Debut III Speakers: BW CMC2 + 2xCM9 + Energy 2xCB-10 (rear)
TV: Panasonic 65ZT60

Possibly because soundbars in general suck, and should serve as poster children for how not to make a speaker, but that's fodder for another thread.
