I recently purchased the EMP E55TI Towers along with their E56ci center. I was looking at picking up their E55Wi Surround speakers while there on sale.

Question is, could i pick up better sounds for around the same price range?

What would be recommended?

Thanks!

I wouldn't spend very much money on surrounds to be honest.

I think I meant to say bipole, my bad.

Depends on placement and room, bipole in general I think has a bigger sweet spot (and may sound more natural on ambient effects), don't quote me though, I'm not sure.

As far as bipoles, I would recommend the emotiva erd-1's but as far as I'm concerned I don't think they sell them anymore. You can call them and ask about b-stock. The XRS-4.1 is the x series surround, but there isn't a review or comment on their sound yet.

These are Di/bi pole selectable and for the money, to my ears have never been beat.

I have four of these in my 7.1 setup, and these are never what I consider to be my weakest link in my system.

My first DIY project. A dual, dual opposed setup

You can look at the HTD Level Two - if budget is tight.

If you want to spend more, then get the EMP surrounds.

I am in the monopole camp - however, the preference and choice
is yours to make.

What would really be the audible difference in going with the different surrounds? Say going from the emp surrounds to Level Two surrounds???

Are the emps really worth the $400 price tag for surrounds?

For surround sound, my main concern is to level match.

I do not know what the EMP surrounds sound like - Also, I do not
spend a lot of money on surround channels (for surround effects).

For me, I want the front 3 channels to timbre (voice/tone) match.
It is not that big a deal to me, for surround effects. Now, if I were
to do surround music, then I would want the surrounds to timbre
match > and I would do bookshelf/monopole speakers for that.
I am mainly old school stereo, or 2.1 for music. Your choice and
option - good luck!
