That Mark Shifty was a good guy and AV666 was a real company. C'mon, that was the biggest myth ever.

Biggest myth that us live sound guys know what is best. Just because we can run miles of speaker cables and run a 24 channel mixing board does not mean that we know home audio. It is another animal that is addicting.

I hate audio stuff. So many choices and not enough time. I mean money.

No worries. I don't actually own any Mags anymore but if you doubt it, give Magnepan a call and ask them (651) 426-1645 or post in the Magnepan thread here or at Audio Asylum.

Or you could ask Don. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...2#post21740002

When someone asks for help concerning what might be the best speaker out of lets say 4 reputable brands and 20 people reply with other speakers, none of which the poster had asked for.
When someone says speaker B is better than speaker A....from what they heard, or a buddy told them.
When someone ask for help and their budget is $2000 and people suggest speakers that are way over budget for the poster.
When someone suggests only their own brand as they believe it is the best possible speaker over all the rest.
When you have done your research and know what you want and a salesperson tries to talk you into something else.

Biggest myth is that there is an unbiased opinion anywhere on the internet.

Axioms pseudo science approach to speaker design.

- No need for proper cabinet bracing

- Comb filtering is a good thing

- Don't need high quality Xover components

- midrange break up is ok (M60)

- off axis response isn't important (VP150)

- Axiom only knows how to perform a DBT

- A $1500 speaker is as good as it gets any thing more is just similarily good.

I don't take much stock in what a manufacturer claims. It kind of goes along with this "myths" thread, which was sort of my point.

When I bought my first hdtv and was told by the saleperson that If i did not purchase the $250.00 hdmi cord, That I was basically throwing away my money on the hdtv. I should mention that he was willing to mark the hdmi cord down to $150.00. Nice of him.

On that point you're incorrect. But the break in period is closer to 10 hours than the 400 that some proclaim. All that does is to put you outside the return window.

No serious audiophile would have a system with drivers over 7" in size. They don't make them for a reason! Always stick with the cheap stuff, they know big speakers!!!

How people say there's a point of diminishing returns, which I don't think is true. From my experience there's always a big enough difference between flagship products and other products that it's almost always worth the extra money.

Is that your unbiased opinion?

It is truly refreshing to find someone who shares my "unbiased " opinion on unbiased opinion. I often see someone ask a question at a non-manufacturer sponsored forum, such as this one, only to receive the sensible suggestion that he would probably get a more detailed response to his question at the manufacturer's forum. I get a real chuckle when he comes back with "I'd rather ask it here where I'll get an unbiased opinion." Ah yes. There are no biased opinions here.
