+1 on squashed dynamic range in today's recording engineering

as far as myths go, I'd have to go with the myth that today's, and by extension, tomorrow's technology is somehow inferior to that of yesteryear, as the older stuff was "warmer" or not as shrill, or (fill in the blank here).

Agree with Bill. I have seen enough Kipple test results that show that a driver does indeed loosen up and usually extend lower. Some more so than others.

We are probably close to the same age (I was 17 when he kicked), my mother was one of those screaming fans. Actually, I would like to have seen him, as he was quite the dynamic entertainer in his time. You're a lucky man.

I've seen Pink Floyd too, it was an incredible experience.

I would have loved to have seen Pink Floyd before the breakup. I saw Pink Floyd sans Roger Waters in 94 and Roger Waters last year. Not the same.

I hate when someone posts that they love the sound of their $60.00 HTIB, and if anyone comments that for $60.00 it must sound terrible, someone else always chimes in that it's o.k if someone thinks their crap system sounds fantastic. It's not o.k. Those with crap systems need to be enlightened, or at the very least, belittled.

I'm not so much on board with this one!!

If some is happy with their system that is all that matters! Who are you to tell them not to enjoy it!?

Yeah, I was 14 when he bit it. Floyd was the best show I've seen, partly because the Division Bell tour was incredible, and partly because they've been my favorite band since I was in HS. I saw them in a sold out stadium on about the third show of their NA tour with 100,000 other fans.

Then you saw the Division Bell Tour too. Although I wish they had never broken up, I honestly don't think I missed Roger at that show, and I think the acrimony between him and David and Richard would have been palpable. It was probably a better tour without him. The production values on that tour were unprecedented and probably unsurpassed. It was as near a perfect show as I think you could put on at that scale. Getting to hear the entire Dark Side of the Moon live was unforgettable, as were the twin inflatable pigs.

But Dude, you can still go see shows like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I'm seeing them next month and I can't wait. I saw them in '87, and apart from Floyd and Steely Dan and Rush, it was the best live show I've seen. They're an incredibly tight and talented band, and I love their music. It's a big plus that their latest album Mojo (2010) is so kick ass.

People who spend 100 hours choosing speakers, and no time working out the placement, then blame the speakers for their disappointment.

I listened to some Bing on the Revel Salon2. I love the Salon2, but I couldn't listen to Bing on 'em. Compared to Ray Charles, Adele, Florence and the Machine....Bing was so boring! Which is ironic because I like his music more than all the others! (:
