What kind of speakers should I get? Thanks for your suggestions!
All depends on what you want to budget for the speakers. The Polk Monitors are great at their price. That Pioneer 5.0 setup from Best Buy is a good value. But if you want to spend more, you can get even a better grade of speakers.
This is awesome... just ordered the BIC F12 subwoofer... Amazon gave me an additional discount at checkout to bring it down to $171 including taxes and 2-day shipping. Not sure why... perhaps because of Prime membership?
Here is the pic - thanks for sparing the comments on the existing speakers, because that's being returned in favor of Denon AVR 2112 CI + BIC F12 + ??
The place where the speakers currently are is only 6.5" high, they are slightly below listening level. The center speaker (in my previous Sony system) was on top of the TV. I don't really want to run wires through the room. We usually sit on the sofa facing the TV, which is about 15' away (as you see, the tv is set diagonally in one corner, we listen from almost the other corner in the 11'x20' room). What kind of speakers should I get? Thanks for your suggestions!
Would you be open to pulling the TV out from the wall a bit and putting a set of towers next to the TV, one on each side?
I think this set from Vanns is tough to beat, and you could even think about selling the surrounds from the set on craigs list and getting a pair in in-ceiling speakers for the surround duty, or even just running a 3.1 set up until you figure out where to put the surrounds. But with that TV stuffed into the corner, its going to be tough to get any imaging out of the front three speakers.
OK, this chapter is over now. Canceled all my previous orders and got the package from Best Buy. Denon AVR2112CI + 8206201 Definitive Technology - ProCinema 600 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System for $999, which comes with 4 ProMonitor 600 satellite speakers, 1 ProCenter 600 center-channel speaker and 250W ProSub 600 SuperCube powered subwoofer.
Yet to set this all up... hopefully will be good! It sure did sound great in the store!
