Dear AVs Members,

I am planning to buy this Mirage MX 5.1 set from Amazon

Mirage-MX-Channel-Miniature-High-Performance

And also Marantz SR 7005 from Amazon as well.

I live in Singapore and the Marantz sold on Amazon has different voltage ... Is there any problem if I get a power converter?

Thank you very much for your help

Sorry, I am not answering your question about power plug - but I think you have reversed your budget on speakers & AVR - ideally you should have $1700 speakers with $500 AVR, not the other way around

+1

Is there a local electronics store you can purchase a receiver from?

I dont recommend tiny "sub/sat" systems for anybody. The sound is compromised to much. You can get nice on-wall speakers that actually sound good, size shouldn't matter if they're mounted on your wall.

http://www.amazon.com/JBL-L820-Wall-...2140260&sr=1-2

http://www.amazon.com/JBL-LC2CH-Perf...2140382&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/JBL-L810-Perfo...2140260&sr=1-9

As for your sub, figure out where you can put it and measure the dimensions of that space.

Correct - don't go with satellites.I am not sure why you'd want to go with sub-sats, is it space or budget?
I would also recommend to check the options available locally - what I have heard that you have some options from China/Europe which are not available this side of the pond. For example, some Swan/Hivi models

Thank you guys.

I went to a local store and was recommend to buy Mission M-Cube NXT with Marantz SR7005

The Mission M-Cube NXT was quoted about USD$1400 while the SR 7005 was abt USD$1300

Do you guys think this is a good choice/combi?

Should I go with SR 6006 newer model of Marantz?

With USD 1400 to USD 1500 budget ... what type of speakers would you recommend?

Thank you

The speakers you refer to are IMO not very good-sounding speakers.

You are talking about spending some fairly serious money, and there are some excellent speakers available from KEF, Totem, Monitor Audio, Tannoy and PSB in that price range.

Do not go too small on the front speakers. For good overall performance IMO front speakers should have at least a 140 mm diameter driver and be specifieded to go down to 45 Hz or so.

For PSB availability call Lenbrook at 65-6748-3137.

For Totem, call Audio Note Singapore at 65-6334-7639

Gumtree (Singapore 249311) is advertising KEF speakers.

Unicorn also has nice speakers including Castle, Polk, and Tannoy- 65-6352-1352

For Monitor Audio check Precision Audio at 65-6334-4611.

A good system in PSB in your price range would be the Image B6 speakers and the C4 and B4.

The SR6006 looks like an excellent receiver.

Thank you for the commsyman.

Today i went to the Lenbrook retail show and auditioned the Image B6 speakers and the C4 and B4.

The sales guy was very helpful and the place is comfortable but I dont find the sound is better than Mission M-Cube NXT setup.

The seems to be concentrated in one area ... but i am a noob in audio ...

the subwoofer does not need to be satelite based ... if that is what you meant by sub-sat

just a normal sub woofer but front, center and rear sat speaker
