I am trying to build a MartinLogan surround sound system. I listen to music 40%, watch tv/movies 40%, and play video games 20% of the time.

I am using ML Theos at my fronts and a ML Stage as my center.

However, I am kinda stuck trying to nail down a surround speaker for my set up.

1. I like the specifications of the FX2 the best, but it does not come in white, which I do not like.

2. I kinda like the regular FX (they do come in white), but worry they may not compliment my systems sound.

3. If I think about getting a black FX2, I may as well consider getting an a pair of black EFX, but I then find myself balking at the $3,000.+ price tag.

4. Finally, I also like the look of the in-wall 'Ticket' which can also be had in white, but would it compliment my existing speakers?

How much does my choice matter?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

When it comes to surround speakers, you have more room to play around with different options. Its not as critical to match as a center and L/R speakers, so things like appearance and price can have more of an influence without much negative audible effects.

I am wondering if I can get one or two more people to agree with this opinion . . .

Thanks

I am not asking about different brands. I am asking about different models within the 'Martinlogan' brand.

I recently purchased a pair of ML Theos, they are awesome, movies sound fantastic. Had been using an Atlantic Technology 450 THX system (7.2). I moved my AT 450 Fronts to my side surrounds. I am still using the AT 450 Center, Rear Surrounds and Subs. I absolutely love the way it sounds. I really prefer the direct side surrounds to the dipole. I will likely replace the center with the new ML Stage X when becomes available and I can find a deal on it.

I agree...you can put together a great sounding system with surrounds from another model or manufacture! 90-95% (orgreater) of the content will com from the front stage and subwoofer!

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

You'll be fine. the only issue might occur if you were really into multichannel music. If not don't sweat it.

I do think you should stay with same brand but not necessary to be in same family. I could never afford to run my L/R for rears. Wish I could but not financially possible at this time.
I run a nice pair of monitors two family levels below my L/R but still in Dynaudio brand and sounds great.

You'll be fine.

Rick
