I'm a long time reader of AVS, and finally, I have an upcoming bonus room that will be my 'Theater Room'. Some basic info:

Room: 12' x 18' 6"
Budget: $1200-$1500 for receiver + speakers

I haven't bought any equipment yet, the house is still about 1.5 months away from being finished. However, I do have some equipment in mind, and I wanted to see if the 'experts' here might have any suggestions/critiques/etc for my plans. These are the items I was considering...

Receiver = Onkyo NR709
Center - Polk CS2
Front L/R - Polk M70s
Rear L/R - Polk M50s
Sub - No Preference right now

Any thoughts, or suggestions to other equipment to look at?

Thanks in advance!

If possible you should audition speakers within your budget. The Polks should fill that room just fine but have you listened to them? For the subwoofer, I would go with something from HSU, Rhythmik, or Outlaw. If I were you I would try to spend the largest portion of your budget on the front mains and subwoofer. You can complete the 5.1 or 7.1 when finances allow.

I have the Polk Monitor 70's / CS2 combination and I'm very pleased with the combination. As an alternative suggestion, you might consider the Infinity Primus P362 towers and PC350 center, P252 towers for surrounds. Not "better", but an alternative choice to look at.

Towers for surround is complete over kill, and you have to much of your budget on the receiver. You can squeeze a higher end polk setup into your budget

RTi A5 $550

CSi A4 $150

RTi A1 $250

Denon 1712 $280 shipped

Energy S10.3 $240
