Just went through this myself last week. Ended up with a set of these. There's four Middy's in the rear and three Flat Panels in the front.. all in white except the center. They look great and sound pretty good too but you're going to need a sub.

It's generally pretty easy to talk a wife out of wanting to replace the floorstanders with in-wall speakers: Just explain that you would be happy to do so, but you're not willing to downgrade in sound (A reasonable proviso). As such, you can certainly move to in-wall speakers, but the budget just to get something comparable to the floorstanders is going to need to be a LOT higher.

After showing my wife the actual dollar figures needed for a decent in-wall speaker setup that was comparable (not an upgrade, just comparable) to what we already had, I never heard another peep on the issue.

My center channel and rear speakers haven't pissed her off yet, so they can stay. I will have no sub - the floor standers have subs included.

Ideas?

I remember a few years ago my wife wanted to get rid of the " speaker wires". So I sold my 5.1 setup and purchased a Yamaha Soundbar. I now have a 5.1 system again 3 Klipsch RF7IIs across the front and RS 62IIs for surrounds and a SV PB13 Ultra. The Soundbar wasn't bad but it didn't quite give us the full surround which we liked. I did buy her a Lexus RX350 though ...eventually I want to go to a 9.2 setup

Spinning the rear tire at 150mph while at 3/4 lean angle will put wrinkles in your seat

Yamaha YAS-4001. Compared to 5.1 with PSB Alpha B1 bookshelves as main, it's holding up quite fine. Way cleaner setup. But I'm not much of an HT guy to begin with so a soundbar is just fine.

Same feeling, except the speakers in that poster weren't big at all. They look like Pioneer speakers of the 1980s from what I can see of the foam grill.

Is that a picture of the horn lens on the TV?

I'm getting 120" so at least I'll have part of my system bigger than yours ;-)

(Sorry for the off-topic posts...)

Yep. Someone on the Klipsch forum asked me to do that. I had to go through some gymnastics with the camera & pc to get the picture taken and on the pc connected to the TV....but that's what it is, a picture.

The beauty about this kind of overkill (and it is for the current space), they will play just as quietly as a pair of: (insert any brand)

It's funny to me because people never think about listening to this system while a neighbor is sleeping at midnight..... People always think it's 1,000 db's or nothing.

On the contrary! My closest neighbor (by proximity) is a retired US Marine Sniper.

Nevertheless, mutual respect of your neighbors goes a long way if some creep tries to break into your house, yes?

Here in Jacksonville, my neighbor is 6" away as his bedroom butts up against my living/dining room (picture with "three" top horns). I've got a little apartment.

My house in Tennnessee, has 5 dogs so they're pretty vocal once someone gets to be around 1/4 mile away and lets us know. (live on end of dead end road by lake, so only 1 way in)

Nearest neighbor in TN that is not family, is about half a mile down road.

It would be fun to have your neighbor come over with some of his toys for some target practice.

Happy ending.

Big speakers (infiniti floor standers) moved to theater in the basement, swapped for the Definitive shelf speakers that had been down there. New 12" powered sub purchased for family room to beef up smaller speaker sound. New Onkyo 414 receiver purchased for basement to finally get 1080p down there without cable swapping.

WAF jujitsu, ftw! That oughtta teach her. :-)
